PAL, China Airlines expand Mla-Taipei services

MANILA, Philippines – Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has forged a partnership with China Airlines (CAL) to offer codeshare services between Manila and Taipei (Taoyuan).

In a statement yesterday, PAL said the memorandum of understanding for the partnership was signed on Dec. 14, by PAL president Jaime J. Bautista and CAL chairman Sun Huang-hsiang at PAL’s executive offices in Pasay City.

The two carriers will share operating three daily flights between the two cities under the partnership.

The partnership will also cover expansion of the two carriers’ cooperation in passenger and cargo operations.

“The two airlines are considering future expansion of their cooperation to provide passengers with even more convenient and high quality air transportation services,” PAL said.

Both airlines are working to expand operations in the Southeast Asian route.

At present, PAL has approximately 166 flights per week to six destinations in Southeast Asia.

CAL meanwhile, operates 155 weekly flights to 16 points in Southeast Asia.

For flights to the Philippines, there are four weekly flights on the Kaohsiung-Manila route and four weekly flights on the Taipei (Taoyuan)-Boracay route on top of the 14 weekly flights on the Taipei (Taoyuan)-Manila route.

Founded in 1959, CAL is Taiwan’s largest airline with a fleet of 104 aircraft and more than 12,000 employees worldwide.

As part of the SkyTeam airline alliance, CAL is able to provide its passengers access to a global network of more than 16,270 daily flights to 1,057 destinations in 179 countries.
