Microtel Technohub: A breath of Fresh air

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Situated in the information technology center of Quezon City, one would not expect to find a sanctuary of peace and comfort in the middle of a bustling city. But the latest branch of Microtel by Wyndham Hotels offers just that.

“It’s like you’re out of town, but you’re actually inside the city,” Guy Umali, general manager of the Microtel Hotel at the UP-Ayala Land Technohub, told The STAR. “There’s so much industry and commerce going on, but you will still be relaxed if you stay here.”

Microtel UP Technohub is the latest addition in the growing local franchise of the international brand.

With 120 rooms – including 12 suites and five access rooms for persons with disabilities – Microtel UP Technohub, said Umali, is the best choice for those who intend to spend a night or two, or even longer, at the City of Stars.

With its strategic location at the Ayala-developed property of the University of the Philippines, Umali says hotel clients are just a few minutes away from government offices and the country’s specialty hospitals such as the Lung Center of the Philippines, the Philippine Heart Center, the Philippine Children’s Medical Center and the National Kidney and Transplant Institute.

In addition to UP, the hotel is also near Ateneo de Manila University and Miriam College, making it the best place to stay for members of the academe who are attending conferences at the said higher education institutions.

“If you’re here for medical reasons, or you have business transactions or academic conferences to attend, you’d be in the right place to stay,” the general manager added.

Get closer to Mother Nature

Microtel Technohub is fronting Commonwealth Avenue – the biggest thoroughfare in the country – but the site was developed with the vision of transporting the clients out of the busy day-to-day activities in the city.

Surrounded by trees and a green landscape that complements the entire UP Technohub, the hotel is developed with a soundproof design to provide a relaxed atmosphere.

A pool is situated at the roof deck, providing guests with a breathtaking view of its surroundings, including, among others, the iconic central temple of Iglesia ni Cristo and the nearby Quezon Memorial Circle.

Certified as a “green hotel” by the Quezon City local government, Microtel Technohub is non-smoking hotel that ensures a “breath of fresh air” for its guests.

Umali said those who wish to smoke may go outside at designated locations, including one at the garden.

In addition to its facilities – which also include ice and water dispensers – the general manager says they are in talks with different organizations to organize tours and other activities at the nearby La Mesa Ecopark and Quezon Memorial Circle.

“We can offer biking and other activities to our guests,” said Umali.

In a separate interview with The STAR, Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte said the city government will soon have its own team of tour guides to provide services to hotels who wish to conduct tours in the city’s historic places.

She also lauded the efforts of the Microtel Technohub to promote the city’s tourism industry among its guests.

‘Hotel with a heart’

Despite its “no frills” rule to make the cost affordable, Umali stressed their commitment to provide the best service and facilities to ensure a comfortable, safe and pleasurable stay.

He said their chiropractor-approved, queen-sized beds ensure that guests get a good night’ sleep at their hotel.

The general manager likewise noted that Microtel Technohub, like other Microtel branches, can accommodate persons with disabilities as they have a specially-designed access rooms which have wider open spaces, both in the actual rooms and the comfort rooms, to allow those with disabilities to move more freely. It can also be connected to a regular room to give them and those who will accompany them more options on how they can maximize their stay.

The hotel has a main function room – called the Oblation Room, in reference to the iconic UP statue – that can accommodate up to 200 people, and three other rooms for smaller crowds of up to 30 individuals.

Umali said these function rooms are available for corporate and academic activities, as well as other events such as birthday and wedding receptions.

Microtel Technohub will hold its grand opening tonight.

Special rates starting at P3,199 per night – which include stay at a double room, breakfast for two, wi-fi access, and welcome drinks – are available for guests until Dec. 30.
