Tom Dixon holds design talks in Makati

-

MANILA, Philippines - Makati has always shown the promise of being a design hub. And with local design artists and industry pioneers flocking to the city, it comes as no surprise that the country’s premier business district is now taking the lead in design and creativity.

Along with key stakeholders and partners, Ayala Land’s intent to revitalize Makati highlights the inherent diversity and vibrancy of the city. In partnership with MOs Design, Makati celebrated its first ever design series called Design Conversations with Tom Dixon.

During this series, the global icon in British design talked about his insights in the global industry and how his brand’s unique manufacturing process contributes to the future of the industry. Prominent designers Reg Yuson, Royal Pineda, and Paulo Alcazaren were also present at the event and discussed local design practices in an open forum with the international global icon.

“Long known as the country’s premier business and financial capital, the arrival of UK’s flagship bearer for industrial design signifies the burgeoning of a new Makati — one that defines a more varied and dynamic city, where our vision — Ayala Land’s vision — of building a culturally diverse urban center comes to life,” said Iris Josef, Ayala Land VP for Project Development of Alveo Land.

Known for iconic furniture pieces such as the Mirror Ball, S-Chair, and the Wingback Chair, which are now deemed modern classics, Tom Dixon is renowned as one of the most influential designers of his time. His works have garnered much attention that the Order of the British Empire has awarded him for his contribution to British design.

Being the creative director of Artek, a 76-year-old Finnish furniture company, and his own brand — Tom Dixon — he continues to design and manufacture lighting, furniture, and interior accessories to this date.

“As the city plays host to one of the most important figures in global design, we continue to highlight the breadth of what it has to offer and its steady rise towards becoming not only the country’s financial capital but the Philippines’ unrivaled center for business, lifestyle, entertainment, and culture,” says Josef.
