The original Mr. Poon back in Malate

-

MANILA, Philippines - Known as the house of steamed fish for three decades, Mr. Poon restaurant now returns to its original place in the Ermita area. Mr. Poon first opened on Mabini St., Ermita, in 1974. It started as a family-style restaurant, cooking dishes that became well-known in the restaurant industry. The one and only steamed lapu-lapu in mushroom sauce, special beef, incomparable togue shrimp, chammi, pusit and alimango became the all-time favorites of the customers.

Five years ago, the original Mr. Poon switched into a franchising business. It opened on Quezon Avenue and Banawe, both in Quezon City, and also in Mandaluyong, Makati and San Juan cities. The branches in Banawe and Mandaluyong are still open but will stop operations next year. Thus, the mother store, Mr. Poon, has been revived in Malate at 1630 Luis Maria Guerrero St., across Robinson’s Place Mall and St. Paul University beside the Tropicana Suites building. The operator is Mom Anita Foods and Mr. Poon is personally managing the restaurant.

Aside from the original dishes, Mr. Poon will also be serving the best beef mami, dim sum, lugaw, Western breakfast, and a special treat, the “Halo-Halo na Halo na” and buko salad, plus a special chocolate mix and three flavors of instant oatmeal.
