How Lance Raymundo stays in shape

WELL-BEING - Mylene Mendoza-Dayrit (The Philippine Star) - October 15, 2019 - 12:00am
With years of experience in the showbiz industry, it's amazing how Lance Raymundo hasn't really aged. Aside from good genes, it must be because of his commitment to a fit and healthy lifestyle.

Starting out as a model and then breaking through as an actor and singer with Viva Artists, Lance is still in the spotlight as he competes on the hit TV game show Tawag Ng Tanghalan (TNT) Celebrity Champions on It's Showtime.

Apart from his talent in acting and singing, he is also known for his impressive physique. Despite his busy schedule, Lance prioritizes working out first thing in the morning and eating healthy every day. We sat down with him to find out more about his fitness regimen and secrets to being fit.

THE PHILIPPINE STAR: What are your current and upcoming projects?

LANCE RAYMUNDO: I’m currently juggling my schedule between my two careers: music and acting. I’m in the middle of shooting the final part of a movie trilogy by director Elwood Pérez. I’m also preparing for the music video shoot for my upcoming Christmas single from Viva Records. The video will feature Miss Philippines Earth-Fire Alex Dayrit as the female lead.

How do you stay in shape?

I stay in shape by maintaining a healthy and well-balanced diet combined with intense weight training with my coach Culver Padilla at Gold’s Gym three to four times a week.

Why is it important to keep fit?

A fit body brings us countless benefits beyond aesthetics. Being fit enhances the quality of our lives because it reduces the risk of diseases, injuries, etc. I’ve also noticed that I make better decisions when I’m in peak condition.

Does it drive you crazy when you don't get to work out?

I feel like there’s something lacking in my week. Not being able to work out makes me feel sluggish.

Are you into any sports?

I used to play soccer and compete in track and field when I was in school. Nowadays, I just go for the occasional boxing training and long runs.

Do you follow any special diet?

I subscribe to a diet plan under Livewellmeals food delivery. It’s a custom-made diet plan created to suit my fitness goals, which is to stay lean and ripped.

How much sleep do you get? Is it enough?

I aim for eight hours of sleep daily. It’s unavoidable that I sometimes get less than eight hours when it’s shooting season, but I always compensate by taking naps whenever I can.

Can you describe your workout routine?

Light to medium load with high repetition, since my goal is to stay lean and not to increase size.

How can you avoid accidents in the gym?

By maintaining focus and always paying attention to what I’m doing.  When I lift weights, I never do it while listening to music with earphones.

What is your favorite part of your physique?

I’m particularly proud of how my chest has developed. But just recently, my coach took a video of me from behind doing a back workout and I just realized my back is actually pretty awesome looking, too.

What part of your body do you think needs improvement?

I need to improve on the strength of my shoulders and I need to start working harder on my lower abs.

What's the best way to motivate someone to get fit?

One of the most important gifts we can give our loved ones is our presence in their lives. Being fit will surely guarantee longer, healthier lives and better quality of living for everyone.
