MVP-led mWell launches Philippines first digital health ID

MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Pacific Group’s health arm mWell launched the country’s first digital health ID designed to make medical records accessible anytime, anywhere that a patient needs them.

The company yesterday said the mWell Health ID is now available to use on the app, allowing Filipinos to pull out their medical files anytime they need them.

The mWell Health ID, which can be accessed via the app, serves as a health passport containing a patient’s medical records, from drug prescriptions and laboratory results, to emergency contacts and past vaccinations.

As the first of its kind in the Philippines, the mWell Health ID is equipped with privacy controls to protect the medical data of patients. It can be accessed every time a patient visits a doctor, and it can be used to share medical information to skip usual paperworks.

Chaye Cabal-Revilla, mWell president and CEO, said the ID could transform how Filipinos transact with health institutions.

The ID provides patients with an easier way of maintaining their medical records, and this allows them to move from one facility to another.

“This innovation directly addresses the pain points of citizens by driving accessibility, efficiency and collaboration in our health care system,” Cabal-Revilla said.

For health care facilities, mWell COO Raymond Sarmiento said the ID enables them to check past diagnoses without requiring the patient to fill out forms.

The ID can reduce costs for Filipinos, as it can show whether they have already taken a particular test, preventing duplication and ensuring that doctors make informed, up-to-date decisions.

“Interoperability of health records has always been one of the biggest challenges in health care. By putting health records in the hands of every Filipino, we create stronger connections between patients and providers,” Sarmiento said.

Under Republic Act 11223, or the Universal Health Care Act, health care facilities are required to keep an electronic storage of patients’ medical files.

Sarmiento said the ID addresses this gap by providing a data-sharing platform without depending on paper-based files.

The mWell app is now the country’s largest digital medical app following its acquisition of KonsultaMD, formerly of the Ayala Group.

It provides Filipinos with the option to do their medical transactions online like consulting with doctors virtually, receiving digital prescriptions and sharing health records.
