ALI pursues RE projects for Lio Estate Palawan

Richmond Mercurio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Ayala Land Inc. subsidiary Ten Knots Phils Inc. plans to pursue more renewable energy projects within its sustainable township development in El Nido, Palawan following the completion of a solar power project.

Ten Knots has completed the first phase of the solar power project to supply renewable energy to Lio Estate, which forms part of ALI’s commitment to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Solar panels with a total capacity of about 536 kilowatt-peak were installed on the rooftops of the existing resorts namely Seda Lio, Huni Lio, Balai Adlao, Hotel Covo and Isla Amara.

Urbasolar Philippines Corp. and Transnational Uyeno Solar Two Corp. supplied the solar panels and installed the system, while DHybrid Power Systems supplied the energy management system.

“As builders of sustainable communities, we want to help in addressing the need for energy security especially for remote tourist hubs like El Nido in Palawan,” ALI hotels and resorts president and CEO Javier Hernandez said.

Energy produced from the solar panels is integrated into Lio Estate’s main powerhouse and redistributed to the operating resorts, shops, and facilities.

With the solar panels, the resorts enjoys power generated from the sun contributing to as much as 80 percent of its day-time power requirements.

“Shifting to renewable energy is an important initiative in developing greener, more resilient, and more sustainable destinations,” Hernandez said.

Lio Estate plans to implement its pioneering renewable energy project at a bigger scale, such as a solar farm that can supply energy to more facilities within the estate.

The sustainable township development has long practiced sustainable measures in its estate management and resort operations, as well as implementing environment-friendly practices over their locators and merchants.
