COMPILED - Regina Belmonte - The Philippine Star

Eye spy

MANILA, Philippines - Gone are the days when I could pull a sleepless night and still look mostly fresh in the morning. I don’t know if it’s a superhuman ability that all colegialas possess, but whatever it was, I don’t have it any longer. If I sleep any less than six hours, I look like I should be an extra on The Walking Dead. It’s for this reason that I keep a stockpile of assorted eye creams, and the latest to hit my personal department store is Estée Lauder’s Re-Nutriv Ultimate Contouring Eye Lift, out next month.

The product’s promise of lifting, firming and tightening (through acacia Senegal tree, sweet almond, and Goji berry extracts) will probably be more appealing to women a little older than I, but in the interest of prevention, I’ve been using it religiously for weeks. My findings: The ceramic tip always stays cool, and combined with algae and chamomile extracts and the recommended massage, it’s great for helping de-puff morning eyes. It’s hydrating without ever feeling heavy or greasy. The refined gold and South Sea Pearls lend a little luminance to the eye area, reflecting light and making it look brighter. The tube packaging keeps your bacteria-laden fingers off the cream, which is a good thing when it’s meant to be applied on such a sensitive area. Plus, it’s spill-proof and break-proof if you tend to be a little unlucky with pots and bottles. The verdict? Love, love, love.

Rihanna goes glam — Viva Glam

The world went gaga for her pocket collections with MAC — like, seriously guys, I couldn’t even get my hands on Heaux online and I was waiting — so we’re certain that the CFDA Fashion Icon of the Year’s latest lippy release is going to be another big hit. This time around, RiRi’s serving up more red realness as Viva Glam’s spokesperson for 2014, with a frost-finish blue-red lipstick and lipglass combo that’ll look cool across all skin tones.

Every centavo you spend on a tube of Viva Glam goes straight to the MAC AIDS Fund, so if your parents, your boyfriend, or your financial planner question the amount you’re throwing out for those five tubes, tell them it’s for charity because it’s totally true.
