Buteyko helps lose weight, enhance sports performance

-

MANILA, Philippines – Hitting the beach or indulging in sports this summer spells more fun if you’re physically fit. But for people who suffer from asthma, allergies, rhinitis, coughing, and emphysema, among other serious respiratory conditions, sleep disorders and anxiety-induced illnesses, summer can be more stressful than enjoyable.

Fresh from teaching in a leading holistic wellness center in Dubai, Australian senior Buteyko practitioner Jac Vidgen resumes his workshops in Manila on the Buteyko Method, a clinically-acknowledged breathing retraining program that helps relieve symptoms of asthma and some 200 other conditions related to dysfunctional breathing while also providing long-term health benefits that safely reduce or even eliminate reliance on medications.

Buteyko Method is a safe, fast and effective technique to correct breathing patterns, says Vidgen whose experience indicates that “over-breathing” is a major contributing factor to a whole range of health conditions — from asthma to chronic respiratory problems to sleep and anxiety disorders to stress-induced illnesses — due to the imbalance caused by excessive loss of carbon dioxide. This in turn leads to less oxygen going to the cells, disturbances in blood chemistry, and constriction of blood vessels.

Buteyko Method also helps clients get relief from hormone and immune dysfunction and migraines as well as lose weight and enhance sports performance and one’s practice of yoga and other forms of meditation. Today, even athletes have taken up Buteyko to power up their performance and avoid breathing disorders.

“Many people who exercise do so with potentially dangerous breathing habits such as breathing through the mouth,” explains Vidgen. “Once they learn the Buteyko Method, they can get quicker recovery, better muscle toning, less muscle pain and fatigue and, for asthmatics, safely exercise without needing bronchodilators.”

Free two-hour introductory lectures are set on Wednesday, April 22, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at In Touch Community Service, 48-A McKinley Road, Forbes Park (Holy Trinity Church compound across San Antonio Plaza), Makati City, and on Thursday, April 23, 7-9 p.m. at PhilDHRRA Partnership Center, 59 C.
