Key improvement helps mini mart chain quickly expand store network

MANILA, Philippines — Since opening in 2014, mini-mart chain Alfamart Philippines has successfully established its presence in Luzon thanks to shortened lead times and quick electrification processes by Meralco. And since becoming a Meralco Biz Partner, Alfamart’s strong network of 514 stores across new locations has provided basic needs at consumer-friendly price points.

Harvey Ong, chief operating office for Alfamart Philippines, recalls, “We started working with Meralco as a Biz customer in 2016 and through quick electrification, we have seen our lead times reduced by around four to six weeks. Meralco has been very helpful in facilitating our expansion, allowing us to open new stores earlier.”

Aside from powering Alfamart’s expansion, Meralco has also been instrumental in maximizing the energy efficiency of the vast branch network.

“At the store level, we work with Meralco in coming up with energy guidelines to reduce the power usage of air conditioning units, warehouses and cold storage. We look forward to appreciating all these savings in the coming months. Any savings we get is going to be very helpful,” Ong explains.

Alfamart took advantage of their strong collaboration with Meralco Biz Partners Group, a special customer segment dedicated to commercial or industrial businesses that use between five to 499 KW/month, with monthly bills ranging from P15,000 to P1.5 million.

Businesses under this program enjoy tailor-fit energy solutions that can be applied to reduce electricity costs, optimize operations and find energy-efficient methods.
