New media installations at the UA&P

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Entrepreneurial Management Program of the University of Asia and the Pacific hosts biannual festivals that support the micro, small, and medium enterprises in the Philippine Creative Industries through classes under the curatorial expertise of Professor Laya Boquiren. The second of six consecutive segments for 2010 is called “DIGG: New Media Installations and Multimedia Performances.” The exhibition opens on March 6, 6:30 p.m., at the 8th floor of Tower II, St. Francis Shangri-la Place, Ortigas.

Through a grant from Cherifer, the exhibition will feature creative designs and technology, such as 3D Animation by Mindtap Studios, a collective specializing on mobile entertainment content. One of the exhibit highlights is a video installation by Tad Ermitano, a new media artist who was the sole Filipino exhibitor at the 2008 ISEA anniversary (Singapore) and the 2006 Ogaki Biennale (Japan).

Ermitano’s video installation of IR images will be unveiled to the public along with a choreographed movement piece by Ian Segarra, artist-teacher from the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA). Other digital creatives to be featured on Samsung flat screen displays are works by design collectives Passion Overdrive and Arcane Animation Studio, as well as digital paintings of BK Pena (university of Santo Tomas), and students from the College of Saint Benilde School of Design and Arts.

The exhibition will kick off with a spoken word performance by National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera, courtesy of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
