Corporate governance training for board execs

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Having effective board directors translate to good corporate governance and better business performance. To help board directors and key officers of public and publicly listed firms align themselves with global standards on effective governance and to comply with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) mandated requirement to attend a corporate governance program to be eligible for election or re-election in the board or assume key positions in management, the Center for Global Best Practices (CGBP) will host a training titled, “Corporate Governance Board Effectiveness Best Practices” on Nov. 8, 2019 at the Marriott Hotel, Pasay City.

This corporate governance program is designed to address two important issues:

• To provide capacity building for board directors by presenting to them the global best practices in board effectiveness drawn from the most updated global research of the largest accounting firm in the world – PriceWaterhouse Coopers / Isla Lipana to be presented by former PWC chairperson Judith Lopez. She will also share her valuable insights and experiences being a board director of many companies across various industries;

• To help all board directors of public and publicly listed companies comply with SEC-mandated requirement for them to attend a corporate governance training yearly – for their eligibility of election or re-election in the board of a corporation.

This program will also feature Jonathan Ravelas, the chief market strategist of the largest commercial bank in the Philippines, BDO. He will handle the foundational topics on basic corporate governance, updates on new regulations and a 30-minute economic briefing with relevance to board directors.

This program is designed to provide a new perspective on strategy and implementation, risk management, corporate ethics, monitoring company performance, management evaluation and succession, board dynamics and many more. This learning initiative will also cover the aspects of financial reporting – defining its framework, the roles of board management, CFOs and controllers in its preparation, analysis and interpretation. Required topics of SEC and a glimpse of the current ASEAN Scorecard will also be discussed.

Registration is open to the general public. CGBP is an accredited training provider of Securities and Exchange Commission. Interested participants are encouraged to avail of the early payment savings and group discounts for those registering three or more attendees. Seats are limited and pre-registration is required.
