MANILA, Philippines - The Trumps don’t just rule in real estate.
Dad Donald has progressed to chocolate, golf parks and beauty pageants (Miss USA and Miss Universe are Trump properties). Now daughter Ivanka is expanding into accessories, first a line of handbags, and now fine jewelry.
On the third level of Pacific Plaza, tucked between the Trump Tower Manila showrooms, is a jewel of a space. Here, Ivanka’s range of fine jewelry, all in gold, sits on serene pedestals. Ranging from P30,000 for a pair of diamond and carved black onyx earrings to 2.1 million for a tassel necklace fashioned from black diamonds.
“I just called her up one day and said, ‘Let’s give it a shot,’” managing director for Century Properties and project head of Trump Tower Manila Robbie Antonio says of their latest collaboration.
“She’s expanding all over Asia,” he says, “and we felt the target market was perfect in Manila.”
“It’s for a sophisticated younger woman,” Antonio adds, “successful, aspirational, in her 30s.”
Since the shop opened, operating quietly from the showroom, they’ve already sold a sizable amount of merchandise, including an oval diamond pendant from the signature collection retailing for P158,000. At the moment, the most affordable item in stock is a pair of Huggie Diamond Hope earrings for P32,500. Ailene Co, the brand manager for Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry, informed YStyle that only one item is available locally per style. So, well-to-do women with friends of similarly affluent backgrounds won’t have to worry about encountering a frenemy in the same accessories.
Though the shop currently operates by appointment (call 793-8942), Century intends to move the store to its mall in Century City, the development currently under construction due for a launch in the middle of next year.
