The Malayan Plaza makes it better

Lester Gopela Hallig - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - If there is one establishment that embodies the ideal “location, location, location,” look no further than the Malayan Plaza in Ortigas. For years, the Malayan Plaza has been the choice hotel of both leisure and business travelers. Its location, right smack in the middle of the Ortigas business district, has made it easier for both types to navigate around the city. It is found along ADB Avenue, which is practically the hub of leisure and business in the area. The malls, if one so chooses, are walking-distance matters, and so are the offices and corporate centers.

In a time like this when travelers would prefer to use their time more wisely and usefully, the Malayan Plaza’s location definitely presents the perfect solution. It is not simply shoptalk, it is feedback from the hotel’s loyal clientele that come back. It is a validation that sits well with the Malayan Plaza manager Melisse Salvano.

“Our location is really strategic. It is prime property, something we have always stressed on. Anywhere you want to go within the Ortigas area is so easy,” Salvano says.

“If you look around, we are a stone’s throw away from the Asian Development Bank and the other prestigious business and financial, local and international companies. Megamall, Galleria, and the Podium are minutes away by foot,” she adds.

Both leisure and business travelers appreciate this fact, Salvano says. It reflects on the advantage that the Malayan Plaza possesses: convenience and value for money. There is more to consider about the hotel though.

The Malayan Plaza boasts of bigger-than-the-usual rooms, sans the bigger-than-the-usual hole in the pocket. Each room has a kitchen and living room. The kitchen is equipped with a microwave oven and other implements. There is a coffee- and tea-making set-up, as well as a hot and cold bath.

Salvano shares that their large rooms are the choice of balikbayans who come home especially for the Christmas season. “When a balikbayan returns, he attracts a large group of relatives showing up to visit him. Also, he can keep his luggage and boxes in the spacious room without even bumping into them.”

People who would like to spend the holidays in a less noisy environment also choose the Malayan Plaza. “There are people who do want to stay away from the smoke during New Year’s Eve,” she continues. “Our location is pretty quiet, so they like that. What they do, though, is head to our lounge or helipad and enjoy the fireworks display from their safe distance.”

The Malayan Plaza also has a fitness center, a swimming pool, and an airy, well-stocked children’s playroom. “Guests with children are able to bond in the playroom, mainly because there are lots of toys for them to enjoy together,” she says.

For corporate clients, the hotel has a function room for 30 people. The social halls are ideal for private meetings.

For this holiday season, Salvano excitedly announces their Joys of Christmas promo. “It is a package worth P3,999 net for studio superior, P4,199 net for studio twin deluxe room, and P 4,399 net for one-bedroom deluxe room. If you book a room, you also get free two ride-all-you-can tickets to Star City. Mind you, these tickets are valid throughout the year.” The promo began last Nov. 15 and will end on Jan. 7, 2014. The package includes breakfast and free Wi-Fi.

“Every year, we receive a lot of inquiries about our Christmas promos. I think it is because people see that there is more mileage for their money here. From our end, we always have tie-ups with our promotions so that it will be more interesting to our valued guests,” Salvano says.

The Malayan Plaza continues to make things better for its clients. The new executive lounge is a welcome addition to the hotel. It serves breakfast daily, from 6 to 10 a.m., and offers ala carte services, featuring local and international dishes, from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Room service is also available until 10 p.m. for in-house guests.

“The lounge, found at the 33rd floor, boasts of a scenic view of the city. The scene is also a perfect backdrop for functions, meetings, and even Christmas parties,” Salvano says. “For the Yuletide season, we shall be having special dishes on the menu.”

She adds: “It is really Christmastime already at the Malayan Plaza. Our Red Christmas theme, as seen in the lobby, is the kind that makes you look forward to this season.”

The hotel’s team of friendly professionals is always on hand to deliver and go the distance for their guests. In fact, the staff’s dedication is almost always lauded by clients, a fact made more evident by their repeat customers who have considered the hotel as family.

“At the end of the day, it is all about providing the best accommodations, facilities, and services to our guests. We are thankful that the steady stream of guests indicates that we are doing it right, and we will continue to make it better,” Salvano happily ends.
