Siberian Huskies steal the show

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - I’ve never met a dog I didn’t like.

So when I watched the “First Pre-National Show” and the “National Show” of the Siberian Husky Breeders and Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (SHBEAP) at SM City North EDSA Skydome, I was enthralled.

The dogs were all so good-looking and so well-behaved that if I were a judge, the organizers, SHBEAP, Philippine Canine Club of the Philippines (PCCI) and Songs from the Heart Events Management, would have been broke from all the prizes they would have had to give out.

It’s good that they invited professional judges, as it is with pure-breed dogs shows. For the pre national competition, the judge was Dr. Alan Ong and for the National one, the judge was US-based Mickey Polimeni of Poli Siberians USA.

It was a good-sized crowd that came out on Saturday, including quite a few family and friends of the owners of the competing dogs. But there were also quite a few people who walked in and then stayed glued to their seats during the dog show.

It is always an event to catch a good dog show, because only the best of the lot get to compete. Moreover, the Huskies are such graceful and regal dogs that it is hard not to be attracted to them.

The Siberian Husky is classified as a medium-sized dog. It stands at 20 to 23-inches at the shoulders, weighing 35 to 60 pounds.

Siberian Huskies are known to be friendly dogs and are also quite gentle.

A total of 44 Siberian Huskies competed for the distinction of being the best of the best in their breed.

The event was jointly sponsored by several dog food companies like Acana, Good Boy, Vitality, Orijen, Royal Canin, Solid Gold, Go! Natural and Doggie’s Choice Shampoo.

SM City North EDSA’s hosting such a prestigious dog show is truly one that pet lovers welcome with open hearts. We look forward to many more in the future — events were any dog, whether pedigreed or not, may have a place on the stage at the Skydome, which is truly a great place for dogs and humans to bond — and win prizes, too.
