Is your pure breed dog registered?

-

MANILA, Philippines - “All purebred dog lovers should only support one organization that clearly has the birthright, so to speak, to be the country’s sole registering body,” said Philippine Canine Club Inc. (PCCI) president Ronnie Natividad. “We just can’t have another civil registry in the country. Only one stands to be credible, otherwise, the existence of another registering body will just confuse everybody,” he added.

It was in 1963 that PCCI first set out to follow the American Kennel Club’s dog registration system. Since then, the local dog registry has been successfully promoting best practices in breeding, and keeping track of purebred dogs in the country.

“In the interest of preserving the integrity of pedigreed dogs in the country, we should not allow just about any group to claim to have the right to put up their own dog registry,” added Natividad.

PCCI holds that a dog’s pedigree is very important.  That dogs, like people, should have a record of its progeny — of where it came from, of its ancestry. The record and certification from PCCI aims to protect consumers with regard to the quality of dogs they’re buying, and will, as well, provide a guide to the dog’s health propensities.

After four-and-a half decades, PCCI remains the only internationally accredited registering body in the Philippines for purebred dogs.

“This is because PCCI has never wavered in its mission of protecting the integrity of pedigree and upgrading the quality of purebred dogs in the Philippines,” said Natividad.

A full member of the Belgium-based international organization of registering bodies Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) since the early ’70s, PCCI documents are recognized by the national registry organizations in all 84 FCI-member countries and in the United States, by the American Kennel Club; Canada, by the Canadian Kennel Club; and the UK, by the Kennel Club through FCI.  PCCI is also one of the original members of the Asian Kennel Union (AKU) based in Tokyo, Japan.

“One registering body per country has been the standard practice of the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) among countries accredited by these international organizations. This has been the standard practice of all nations who give due attention to preserving the integrity of dog breeds in their country.”
