Greenhills Christmas on Display 2015: There’s no place like home

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Greenhills Shopping Center ushered in the Yuletide season with the lighting of the annual Christmas on Display (COD) last Nov. 13 with the theme, “A Hometown Christmas.”

This year’s COD portrays the traditional Filipino way of celebrating Christmas. The moving mannequin show narrates the story of a balikbayan family spending the holidays in their hometown after living abroad for a long time. The story features several customs and experiences unique to Christmas in the Philippines.

“We understand how important the holiday season is, especially to the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families. More than reconnecting with their loved ones, OFWs see this as an opportunity to reconnect with their homeland as well. We wanted to capture that beautiful effort in this year’s COD,” said Cathy Casares-Ko, Ortigas & Company vice president and general manager of the Shopping Center Division.

Greenhills Shopping Center has been entertaining the public with the COD for 13 years now. This Christmas showcase is created and orchestrated by the Manila COD Team, led by Alex Rosario, who was also the owner of the COD Department Stores in Cubao.

“For almost 60 years now, families have made it a tradition to watch the show. It has always been heartwarming to witness families enjoy themselves during this festive occasion. Greenhills has been doing this for 13 years already, but the experience does not grow old – happy memories get created and recreated each year,” Ko added.

Among the first to witness Greenhills’ Christmas spectacle are 400 kids from the Department of Social Welfare and Development-San Juan and White Cross Orphanage, who were also treated to a party before the program’s kickoff.

Watch the Christmas on Display in Greenhills Shopping Center ongoing until Jan. 3, 2016. The show runs daily from 6:30 p.m.  until 11:30 p.m. with one show running every 30 minutes. Admission is free.

Those looking for delectable food selections, entertainment, and bargain goods will find all in Greenhills Shopping Center, which remains a prime shopping destination every Christmas season. Along with the annual Christmas on Display, the Christmas Night Market and Christmas Bangketa Fair are ongoing until Jan. 3.

This year, Greenhills Shopping Center welcomed a number of new developments in a bid to make the complex a complete live-, work- and play- destination. And in the next twelve months, its parent company, Ortigas, will unveil a second residential tower, following the highly-successful contemporary-classical piece, Viridian in Greenhills.
