5 harsh realities that will motivate you to move on

Alixandra Caole Vila - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - When hearts are shattered into pieces, we feel awful and terrible. No matter how we try to put it back together, it just would not fit and beat the same way as it used to.

You cannot picture yourself loving someone else. You only see your life out of the glasses you forced and forged to build out of the bitterness you feel.  You cannot fully imagine a future without the person you love the most, so you linger in the past where everything is according to the way you want them to be, when everything around you makes sense.

You begin to over think. Even the simplest things elicit sentiments and flashbacks of your memories that only reopen your wounds and further engage you to the past.

That’s how you remain. But the harsh reality is that the person you once called “lover” is gone now and grieving over that person is not healthy for you and the people around you anymore.

Here are some reasons why you should get out of situations that no longer serve you happiness:

  1. The whole world does not stand still for you and it will continue to rotate no matter how still you want it to be. You cannot ask everyone to stop moving just because you are not ready to do so. No matter how much in pain you are right now, the harsh reality is, the whole world does not care. So mourn for weeks and suck it up the next week after.
  2. Chances are, the person who used to want to spend the rest of their life with you just does not give a f**k about you anymore. They have already moved on and they are beginning to love someone else. We know you want to be the one wearing the “I am winning the break up” badge, but right now, you are not. It’s time to keep your head up and keep your heart strong. Instead of being sad about seeing him move on, use it as a motivation.
  3. Eventually, everyone will get tired of you. As your “heartbreak days” drag along, everyone, including your seat mate at your class will get tired of hearing the same story.  Your friends’ comforting words will become more limited. The look in their eyes will change from understanding to pity to irritation. You already lost a lover. Now, do you want to lose everyone too?
  4. You can go back to the past through the fragments of your emotions and memories, but you can never put those fragments back together to regain what was lost. You cannot live in the past forever. You cannot keep on repeating the same gestures, the same dialogue and the same scene because you are choosing to live in the past. The person you want to be with again will only be alive through your dreams or imaginations, but never in reality.
  5. Lastly, you have to move forward because you will be left behind. As painful as it is to see them move on with their lives without you, it is much more agonizing to see yourself stuck on the past—unmoved, pitiful and miserable.
