Hormone dysfunction horrors and remedies

SAVOIR FAIRE - Mayenne Carmona - The Philippine Star

Somehow, something was not right in my world.  I felt listless and anxious for no reason, I had chills even if the room was warm, my sleep was irregular, and I would wake up feeling tired, which is unusual.  In fact, friends call me Ms. High Energy as my day, no matter how busy, would always include a kind of exercise, be it aerobics, dancing or gym training.  And suddenly, here I was vegetating, just lazying around with no interest in any activity that they would invite me to attend.  I consider my hair my crowning glory and horror of horrors, it was now falling in droves!  Furthermore, I was having a difficult time focusing on anything — a book, a movie, or my fave TV shows.  A close friend suggested I had adult onset of ADDS. (Attention Deficit Disorder Syndrome).

I brushed away suggestions that this was part of the aging process.  I already brainwashed myself into thinking that age is just a number and should never be a deterrent factor to one’s goals, ambitions, and pursuits of interests.  I am a big fan of an elderly lady I met in Paris 10 years ago — she was in her 60s then and still doing all kinds of extreme sports.  I will never forget her advice: Age is a state of the mind.  The mind is so powerful that if you think young, your body will remain young.   For many years, I thrived on her mantra until this time when no amount of mind power could make my body respond to my youth-oriented thoughts.

I called several doctors, but followed the advice of the one in Villa Medica, Germany.  He told me to have a hormone panel test, as it could be hormonal imbalance that is wreaking havoc with my system.  True enough, my tests showed a dip in my estrogen, progesterone, and  testosterone, the very hormones that carried me all these years feeling invincible.

I was living in Paris during the ’90s and a good doctor educated me on the importance of taking bio-identical hormones versus the prospect of feeling miserable because of the “change of life” in a woman, meaning menopause.  After evaluation of my health and family history, I followed the good doctor’s advice and breezed through the supposedly difficult years in a woman’s life in tip-top shape. While my peers were miserable suffering through hot flashes,  their bodies morphing to epic proportions, undergoing low-energy levels, low libido, and mood swings, I remained my normal self and stayed slim and energetic.

Bio-identical hormones mean the hormones match exactly the molecular structure of the hormone that your body produces.  They could be in pill, cream or gel form.  I decided to take a break from taking the bio-identical hormones six months ago when I ran out of my custom-formulated progesterone cream and for a while, I felt fine. Then two months ago, I started to feel out of sync.  Someone likened the body to an orchestra. When some players are absent, the orchestra doesn’t perform the same way. I felt exactly like an orchestra with missing members.

I am now waiting for my bio-identical hormones, which are arriving at the end of the month.  In the meantime, I am forcing myself to exercise, and I am abstaining from sweets, alcohol, and other foods that might exacerbate my condition. I am eating a lot of yams, tofu, beans, nuts, berries, and other healthy stuff that are fillers-in for estrogen, and progesterone .

I also consulted with Dr. Aivee Teo, who is the founder of the Aivee Teo Anti-Aging Institute on Burgos Circle, Bonifacio Global City.  She recommended sessions using Ondamed, a revolutionary biofeedback device that is new in her office but has been used in Europe for more than a decade now.

Dr. Teo described Ondamed as rewriting the book on how to benefit people on all levels of well-being, be it physical, emotional or mental.  It basically re-attunes the off-key organ or cell in the body to its frequency or vibration.  How will the machine know what frequencies to use and where to apply them?  Simple answer from Dr. Teo: The body tells the machine.

Ondamed (Latin: wave medicine) is a technology based on Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Fields (PEMF) and its philosophy centers on the Pulse Biofeedback, enabling the practitioner to access each  individual’s needs.  Ondamed’s unique feature enables the practitioner to monitor the patient’s responses to a wide variety of subtle electromagnetic fields, introduced via the neck applicator, and select which frequencies are most appropriate.

My case: A day before my appointment with Dr. Aivee, I had indigestion, was feeling very tired, and had lower back pains from a two-hour dance exercise.  I didn’t tell the nurse about it.  But during the treatment, the nurse said the machine detected something was amiss in my stomach and my lower back.  Ondamed also detected something wrong with my spleen and pancreas (research reveals that both organs are connected to the digestive system).

It seems the machine re-attuned the parts of my body that were not functioning well. I felt mild waves going through my body.  I also felt energized surprisingly after the treatment and that evening, I slept straight through the night, which had not happened since the onset of my hormonal dysfunction.  My backache disappeared.  My initial skepticism towards the treatment turned to belief and trust!

How Ondamed works: It is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. The device produces a highly focused pulsed electromagnetic field that penetrates deep into a targeted region of the body to painlessly stimulate tissues and jump start cellular activities.

Mechanism of action:

• Adds energy through natural resonance effects.

• Raises the electrical potential of tissues that are in a weakened state.

• Restores normal functions.

• Promotes relaxation as evidenced by changes in brain waves.

As they say, Rome was not built in a day.  It is recommended to have at least five sessions or more of Ondamed to really feel good as new.  I am looking forward to my next Ondamed sessions!
