Take note of the new Samsung devices

Jiggy Cruz - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Samsung created waves with the launch of the Galaxy S III earlier this year. Now, the company launches two new gadgets in the Philippines: the Galaxy Note 10.1 and the very recent Galaxy Note II. Neither disappoints and both actually are pleasant surprises.

Galaxy Note 10.1

Samsung’s latest tablet actually exceeds expectations. The Android 4.0 OS or “Ice Cream Sandwich” software is smooth and fast. People say that Android OS isn’t as user friendly, but one really has to test it out to find it’s very easy to use and very helpful. For those not familiar, Android is Google powered and it syncs the Google products in your gadget like YouTube, Gmail, and Google+ just to name a few.

Three things caught my attention testing the device out. First, the way YouTube is integrated into the whole system is fantastic. Using YouTube on the Note 10.1 is a dream come true. It’s really fast plus you can see the recommended videos brilliantly displayed on the side, which is very user friendly, quite frankly. Navigating on YouTube is just easier. Second, reading digital comics on the device was a pleasant surprise. The 10.1” WXGA LCD makes the difference. If you’re the type who likes reading graphic novels digitally, this one is a no-brainer. You get the crystal-clear display on the 10.1” screen and that’s priceless. Third, using the S Pen on the Galaxy Note 10.1 was the biggest surprise. Writing or drawing on the Galaxy Note 10.1 is just amazing. It’s just like writing or drawing on paper. The screen is pressure sensitive which lets you write comfortably and there’s exact pointing. For the artists who draw digitally, the Galaxy Note 10.1 is the perfect gadget for you. It really is another wonderful development by Samsung.

And then there is note ii

Getting the Galaxy Note II as a birthday gift from my dad was like Christmas morning. Yes, people say that the phone is huge but the device is quite useful. The 5.5-inch screen is perfect for taking notes in a meeting. Imagine that you never have to take a notebook with you anymore. Apart from that, the Galaxy Note II is already using the latest Android OS — the 4.1 OS, also known as “Jelly Bean.” The latest OS boasts better speed and lives up to expectations. Watching videos or the latest movie trailers on the phone and surfing using Google Chrome is faster and more fun on the Galaxy Note II. That’s a huge 5.5” screen that fits in your pocket. The Galaxy Note II also carries the great features the Galaxy S III has like S Beam and Multitask.

Three things that made me love the new Galaxy Note II. First, S Pen with Air View is probably the most innovative feature on this phone. I can conveniently browse my pictures without opening a folder. I simply point my pen a few millimeters above the screen. Mind you, the tip of the pen doesn’t even touch the screen: I point it on top of a folder, and I easily get an overview of a gallery or I can read an entire message inside the inbox. It saves time and energy plus it’s easier managing folders. Second, the 5.5” HD Super AMOLED is just sheer joy when viewing videos. Watching anything in glorious high definition is pure bliss and it can fit in your pocket or the palm of your hand. Third, taking down notes has never been this much fun. In this digital day and age, all we do is press buttons; we forget how fun it is to write. In meetings, all you have to do is take your Galaxy Note II and write away. The rubber tip of the S Pen conveniently takes care of the screen plus the pressure-sensitive feature makes it feel like you are writing on paper. One could say that writing on the Galaxy Note II and writing on a real piece of paper are almost the same. It’s that sensitive.

Whether it be a tablet or a phone, the Samsung Notes are great and high-quality products I’d recommend any day of the week. Samsung’s innovations with these new devices were pleasant surprises. With the Christmas season coming round, it would be a good idea to ask for these as gifts. It may be a better idea to not wait and just get them now, since they might sell out fast.
