Are you Xperienced?

ARTMAGEDDON - Igan D’Bayan -

Pretty soon it’s going to be more and more of a Grant Morison world — devices are slimmer, with more features, sleeker, and yet a hell of a lot smarter.

Take the new Xperia smartphones from Sony Ericsson.

At the recent launch of the Xperia Arc and Xperia Neo, Sony Ericsson marketing manager Patrick Larraga holds up an Arc. See, he says, “despite slimness, we managed to put in a curve.”

The new smartphones continue the brand’s design philosophy of emphasizing “human curvature and precision by tension.” Thus the new units come in a sleek, ergonomically-designed body that fits perfectly in your hand and in mine.

Here is the Arc’s tale of the tape: The Xperia Arc touch-phone has a wide 4.2-inch multi-touch scratch-resistant screen, and is only 8.7 mm at its thinnest part.

“With its 4.2 Reality Display, (having an Arc is) like having a virtual theater that you can carry in your pocket like so,” explains Larraga, demonstrating the handiness of this smartphone.

Both the Arc and the Neo are equipped with a Reality Display running on the Sony Mobile Bravia Engine. Dig the visual boon of these smartphones: noise reduction, contrast enhancement, color management and a sharpness filter. Say, you recorded your garage band in the studio ruining beyond recognition a Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars song; with the Arc and Neo you could get sharper, crisper and clearer footage — even if your cover song could use a little tweaking.

Neo soul: The Xperia Neo

The difference, my dears, is striking.

The Neo does not only boast these features, it also a GreenHeart phone — one of the examples of green innovations “that reduce the impact on the environment.”

For one, Neo phones are made from recycled plastic, and it comes with an e-manual.

Aside from this, both Xperia models run on Gingerbread, the latest Android version, which translates to a faster, more responsive and smoother Android smartphone experience.

“We want the Xperia range of entertaining smartphones to be top of mind when consumers are choosing a smartphone with an Android OS,” explains Sony Ericsson GM Francisco Dennis Manzano. “We believe that the expanding Xperia portfolio and the combination of Sony and Sony Ericsson’s technology will help us achieve a leadership position in Android.”

We just can’t wait for the next slew of Grant Morison gadgets from brands such as Sony Ericsson.
