Fiesta!

OH YES, IT'S JOHNNY! - Johnny Litton -
"Man is born free – and everywhere he is in irons."–Jean Jacques Rousseau

National Days are always causes for celebration in the diplomatic and social circles. But when no less than five countries – Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Nicaragua and Costa Rica – commemorate their national day, then it’s only understandable that a fiesta on the grandest scale becomes the most appropriate way to celebrate it. Mexican Ambassador Enrique Hubbard and Honorary Consuls Mellie Ablaza, Lee del Pan, Antonio Olbes and Fausto Preysler gathered to welcome guests from the diplomatic and consular communities, politicians, business people and friends of the host countries.

Former President Fidel Ramos graced the affair as special guest, while Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Edsel Custodio toasted for the health and prosperity of the five countries together with Papal Nuncio Archbishop Antonio Franco, dean of the diplomatic corps.

The grand fiesta was indeed a very warm, original, friendly and fun celebration for all!

Happy Independence Day!
A Spiritual Spectacle
A Eucharistic celebration to honor Noche Para La Virgen Maria was successfully held at the NBC Tent recently with Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales of Manila as the main celebrant.

The solemn religious event, organized to raise funds for the Cofradia, was highlighted with the presentation of images in carosas, masterfully decorated by The Blessed Virgin’s artistic and faithful devotees. At the center of the stage, the La Immaculata was decorated and donated by Ponce Veridiano, while the Nuestra Señora De La Victoria, owned by Doña Victoria de Tengco, was made more magnificent by Robert Blancaflor. Don Ado Escudero lent the image of the Nuestra Señora Del Rosario, with bright blooms arranged and donated by Rachy Cuna while the Aliño Family’s Nuestra Señora De La Naval De Manila was bedecked with flowers by Toni Parsons. Papal awardee and philanthropist, Imelda Ongsiako-Cojuangco, presented the Nuestra Señora De Las Flores which shone brightly with garlands and embellishments arranged by Antonio Garcia. The blessing of the images was followed with a Ramon Orlina exhibit, a silent auction and a serenata with Isay Alvarez and Robert Seña. The profound occasion was a deeply moving experience for all those who united for the Cofradia’s cause.

Viva La Virgen!
