Director Cathy: KathNiel ideal role model for the youth
MANILA, Philippines — Among the many love teams acclaimed film director Cathy Garcia-Molina has worked with, from Sharon Cuneta and Robin Padilla, to John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, her most favorite are KathNiel (Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla) and LizQuen (Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil), which she revealed at the press conference of her latest KathNiel-starrer, “The Hows of Us.”
“KathNiel is a good role model or idols for the youth because they are good people in real life,” the director of blockbuster romance films assured.
For her, KathNiel and LizQuen are “pantay bilang tao.”
She said she also likes LizQuen because like KathNiel, Liza and Enrique are also “totoong tao.”
According to director Cathy, she did not have to lose her temper to make KathNiel get the right emotions for a film.
“They don’t work best sa sigawan. They just need more instructions,” she shared.
“I didn’t have to direct Daniel because he already knows what he’s doing.”
Though Kathryn has been wearing more revealing clothes lately, she explained it is because she does not like to look “too safe” in her fashion choices.
“I don’t think she’s shedding off more clothes. It’s just part of her growth and it’s really normal. Walang bastos or maselan. Kasi bago pa n’ya gawin ‘yun, nasabihan ko na,” Daniel said in defense of his ladylove.
Although “The Hows of Us” has kissing scenes since lead characters are lovers, director Cathy said she is proud that the movie is generally wholesome.
“I’m proud to make a movie without sex, na pwedeng pumasok ang mga anak n’yo. Kasi may anak din ako. I have to be responsible,” director Cathy enthused.
The movie shows maturity not through daring scenes, but maturity “in terms of decision making, how we handle problems,” said Daniel.
A movie about a young couple dreaming of growing old together as they deal with the struggles of being in a long-term relationship, “The Hows of Us” is now showing in theaters nationwide.
