Prices of basic goods seen remaining stable

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Prices of basic goods are expected to remain stable for the rest of the year as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) sees no need for adjustments in suggested retail prices (SRP).

Trade Undersecretary Ruth Castelo said in a text message there would be “no SRP movement until next year.”

“We already adjusted prices in our latest bulletin,” she said.

Among the goods which saw price increases in the latest SRP issued on Sept. 30 are sardines, coffee, bottled water, instant noodles, canned meat and some condiments.

Some brands of sardines registered increases in SRPs such as 155-gram (g) Atami Green (P15.90 from P14.90); 130-g Family’s Budget Pack Plain (P15.45 from P14.25);  155-g Family’s Bonus Pack (P17.25 from P17);  155-g Master Bonus Pack (P17.25 from P17); and  155-g Mikado (P15.90 from P14.90).

Coffee brands which had higher SRPs are the 25-g Blend 45 (P16.95 from P16.75);  25-g Great Taste (Granules) (P19.20 from P18.75);  25-g Great Taste Premium (P18.10 from P17.75); and 30-g

Kopiko Black three-in-one (P7.50 from P7).

The 55-g Homi instant noodles also had a higher SRP of P7.65 from P7.20, previously.

Bottled water with adjustments in SRPs are the 500-milliliter (ml) Wilkins Pure  (P11 from P12); one liter Wilkins Pure (P18 to P23); 330-ml Viva (P10 from P12); and one liter Viva  (P19 from P22).

Canned meat products with higher SRPs are the 165-g CDO luncheon meat (P32.50 from P31.50); 150-g CDO meat loaf (P17.25 from P16.95); and 150-g CDO beef loaf  (P17.25 from P16.95).

Condiments which saw SRPs rise include the 350-ml Datu Puti white vinegar (P14.95 from P14.20); 350-ml Silver Swan vinegar (P14.95 from P14.20) and 200-ml Silver Swan vinegar (P6.75 from P6.40).
