Megaworld launches relief drive for Yolanda victims

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - During this time of calamity, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls is enjoining its guests to help those affected by typhoon Yolanda by joining its mall-wide relief drive “Light of Hope.”

Shoppers can donate non-perishable food items like canned goods and biscuits, bottled water, medicines and clothes, blankets and slippers at Megaworld Lifestyle Malls. They can bring their donations to the Eastwood Mall Concierge, Lucky Chinatown Concierge and the Newport Mall Cinema Ticket Counter.

Guests can also light a candle and send a prayer for those affected by the typhoon at the Light of Hope installations, located at the Eastwood Mall Veranda 2F, at the entrance beside Cotton On at Lucky Chinatown and at the driveway of Venice Piazza.

Guests who dropped off goods at the donation areas can claim a candle or mallgoers can also bring their own candles with holders and flowers to be placed at the installation.

There will also be a special mass and candle-lighting ceremony in honor of the victims of Yolanda at the Eastwood Open Park on Nov. 16, 6 p.m.

At Lucky Chinatown, there will also be a special ceremony led by the monks of Miao de Buddhist Temple on November 18, 11 a.m. at the Chinatown Walk. Mallgoers can also place offerings and light incense at the altar the whole day.

Many establishments at Megaworld Lifestyle Malls are also doing their part to help those affected by Yolanda.

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is hosting ‘The Great Exchange: Make the switch, Make a difference’ where customers can give their old coffee machine in exchange for a new CBTL Kaldi Coffee Machine at 50% off. 100% of all machine sales will be donated to victims of the typhoon.

Slappy Cakes at Eastwood City is also accepting donations in kind as part of their Project Kindness initiative. Donors can drop off medicines, pull tab canned goods, biscuits, slippers and blankets which will be given to victims in partnership with GMA Kapuso Foundation.

Donation boxes are also available at Mcdonald’s. Diners are encouraged to bring in canned goods, rice, noodles, bottle water, hygiene kits and towels.
