YS Online Exclusive: It's about time you shoot like a pro!

MANILA, Philippines – The Christmas season is a perfect time to be a shutter bug because no other holiday gathers all your friends and family as much as this one. At a time like this, having good photography skills is more important than having that latest camera on your hand because truth be told, any high-end DSLR would be as good as a point and shoot if you don't know how to maximize its use. This is the reason why you should take basic photography before the Christmas bells start a-ringing.

MINT Basic Photography Short Course & Contest is a four-week, four-Saturday program—running from Nov. 20 to Dec. 11, 2010—that will equip you to get started in the field of photography, whether you intend to develop it as a profession, a hobby or way for self-expression. For the first session on Nov. 20 (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.), renowned photographer Patrick Uy—highly respected for his celebrity, wedding, fashion and editorial photography—conducts the class. You get to learn the basics from a genuine pro.

The second, third and fourth sessions—facilitated by Paulo Padre, production specialist for Filquest Media, and Marjorie Gorospe, multimedia reporter and photojournalist—focuses on photography for the Yuletide season. During the Christmas celebrations, you will see numerous photographic opportunities around you. Houses covered in Christmas decorations, carolers, lamp posts adorned with lights and lanterns and colorful malls filled with last-minute shoppers. Dubbed as “Capturing the Lights and Colors of Christmas,” Padre and Gorospe teaches Christmas-themed indoor shooting of still-life, portraits and props on Nov. 27 (1 to 5 p.m.) and outdoor shooting around McKinley Hill, Fort Bonifacio on Dec. 4 (3 to 7 p.m.).

The fourth session on Dec. 11 (1 to 5 p.m.) will be the presentation of photographs and awarding. The winning participant gets the grand prize of P10,000. For a course fee of P5,000, you get to acquire a skill that will last you for a lifetime. For inquiries, call 223-MINT (6468), e-mail admissions@mintcollege.com or visit Meridian International (MINT) at 1030 Campus Avenue, 2F. Commerce & Industry Plaza, McKinley Hill, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. You can also log on to www.mintcollege.com or add the Fan Page: facebook.com/mintschool.
