At the stroke of the 11th hour

FROM COFFEE TO COCKTAILS - Celine Lopez -
If you have ungraciously stuffed your carefully sculpted stomach with turkey and eggnog , and yet still find yourself without the regulatory yuletide barter –its time to save your reputation!

Yes, times are different now. The days are shorter, responsibilites longer, traffic harder and all Christmas songs are in rap or sung by washed out pop stars – it makes you wonder if the Christmas spirit has gone by way of Snuffleupagus. It’s hard to spread the Christmas cheer when all you want for Christmas are two Xanaxes. However, that’s no excuse.

Clever gifts need not to be an ardous task. Some desperate souls plough out extra bucks to hand out a gift to a significant forgotten-but-beloved one that does not scream last minute. Scrooges just bah-humbug it. However, some ingenious souls from the Republic of Fight offer thier suggestions that range from witty to practical, that doesn’t scream "ooops" at all.

Tina MARISTELA-Ocampo,
EVP and head of merchandising of Astoria Group of Companies

"Anything for the house from Kish, Anonymous graphic tees, bling-blings from Jo (Joyce Orena’s store at Greenbelt 3), Adidas jacket from the vintage collection, Tiffany bracelet with a dangling charm, Nars lipgloss. Above all you should always consider what the person wants for Christmas, last minute or not!"

Wendy Puyat-Hotung,
Graphic designer and co-owner of Lily

"A game of pick up sticks, that Magic Eight ball is simply for everyone, a genuine baby Christmas tree is charming or maybe just a stylishly bunched bundle of pine branches will spread some instant holiday cheer."

Myrza Sison,
Editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan Philippines

"Kama Sutra earrings from Happy David and the Fun and Fabulous Cosmo 2004 date book for only P 150 , with cool illustrations by Marge Melendez, you-go-girl quotes to empower you daily and even a monthly period planner!"

Miguel Rosales,
Interior decorator and partner of MO Designs

"Dog bowls. To remind everyone that our great nation will go to the dogs if we don't do anything."

Jenni Epperson,
Stylist and columnist, The Philippine STAR

"Gift check placed in stylish boxes (zebra print perhaps?) from Max Brenner or The Spa is a hit this season. Mini bottles of champagne from Marks and Spencer and thin cookies from Bizu are instant stocking bulkers!"

Mia Borromeo,
Spokesperson of Wish "A Swatch Skin watch."

Tim Yap,
Eventologist, writer "Sexy underwear, Chocnut and a Jingle Jangle Swatch."

Pauline Suaco-JUAN,

Doris Ho,

"I like classic games from my childhood like jackstones, pick-up sticks, Chinese jackstones and dominoes in wood. Every kid should have an experience of simpler times."

Tessa Valdes,

Joel Tantoco ,
