MANILA, Philippines — Three Philippine islands were named in the Condé Nast Traveler (CNT) Top 10 Readers’ Choice Awards for the best islands in Asia, the biggest representation for any country on the list.

Boracay landed on the third spot, following Indonesia's Bali and Thailand's Koh Samui. The Visayas island paradise claimed the top spot last year, while Palawan improved from No. 8 to the sixth spot.

Siargao wrapped up the Top 10 at the 10th spot, making a return to the list after missing out last year, likely because the surfing destination was still recovering from the destruction brought by Typhoon Odette.

Other islands on the list were another Thai island, Phuket (4), Langkawi in Malaysia (5), the country of Sri Lanka (7), Phú Quoc in Vietnam (8) and the Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands of Japan (9).

Over half a million Condé Nast Traveler readers participated in the survey conducted by the travel site.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco shared in a statement that the three islands' recognition shows their charm to global travelers.

"From the charm of our islands, pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, vibrant marine life, lush landscapes, rich heritage and culture, and the excellent hospitality of the Filipino people, the Philippine experience is always one that is filled with love and happy travels," Frasco said.

The tourism chief said the recognition would serve as an inspiration to continue developing and promoting the Philippines as a premier travel destination.

"Our commitment to sustainable tourism practices has not only captivated the hearts of travelers but has also contributed significantly to the growth of our nation's tourism industry," Frasco said.

In addition, Palawan's El Nido Resorts figured in three different Readers’ Choice Awards categories for this year.

El Nido Resorts was cited as the top of the Best Resorts in the Philippines, second among the Best Resorts in Asia, and No. 39 among the Best Resorts in the World.

This is the eighth time that El Nido Resorts has been recognized in the latter two categories.
