Do you believe in love at first sight?

WORDS WORTH - Mons Romulo - Pang-masa

Valentine’s is our next stop for celebration. As hearts decor and love quotes greet us in our favorite shopping malls so will our favorite TV and radio programs play for us our favorite love songs through out the day.  I asked some personalties their thoughts on love at first sight. Read on and see if you agree with them.

Lulu Tan Gan, fashion designer

Not possible. I never experienced it with someone.  But some place I fell for was Paris, in the early ‘80s. That was when I thought, this must be “love at first sight.”

As cliche as it sounds, I believe true beauty should be both inside and out. Therefore, in order for me to fall in love, it is necessary to go beyond exterior appearances.  Obviously it helps that my wife is gorgeous, but seeing her for the first time was just the first step in the dynamics of attraction.  Getting to know her, on a profoundly deeper level, her values, her humor, her personality, all that had to take awhile. Now this is coming from a guy who met his wife on Facebook. (Yes, Facebook) so I had gotten to know her for a month in the most modern of ways shortly after our first online conversation.  And so the first time I ever laid eyes on her in person, I was smitten. (so technically I contradict myself — it was love at first sight — although I had already fallen through previous conversations via SMS and online chat. (Thank you very much, Mr. Zuckerberg.)

With age, my definition of love has also continued to evolve. And today, I’ve come to know that it really is a compromise between two people. It’s a lot of giving in and sacrifice, and a lot of “actions speak louder than words.” Chemistry at first sight, for sure, but love takes a little more time.

Franco Laurel, TV personality

When I first met my wife Ayen in 1998, I was definitely attracted to her. The more I got to know her through the years of our friendship, the more I fell in love with her, which eventually led to us becoming husband and wife in the year 2001. So, to answer the question, do I believe in love at first sight? Yes, I do!

Michael Carandang,TV producer

I used to. Now I believe in loving yourself before you can truly love someone else. But I’m a romantic so I may start believing in “love at first sight” again, I never say never anyway.

Claudine Trillo, news reporter, TV5

I don’t believe in love at first sight. Love is too strong a word for something so instant.

Luke Jickain, model

Of course, ever since I saw the movie My Girl and read the book Blink (a time traveler handed me a copy when I was eight). Everyone should try to be in love at first sight. It can be the cure to war and cultural differences, you know. But can lead to over population. #kissforpeace
