Calling all hermanas: Come home to Poveda!

-

MANILA, Philippines –  Institucion Teresiana or Poveda Learning Centre or Saint Pedro Poveda College  whatever era you were in, the beloved school that stands firmly along EDSA and that was fondly called “Goldilocks” for its distinct gingham gold and white uniform celebrates 50 years next Saturday, Oct. 16.

The full-day affair, which starts 9 a.m. at the Poveda school grounds, commemorates certain activities that Povedans have been accustomed to do such as the living rosary and batch exhibits that will showcase five decades of Poveda education.

Hop from one booth to another as the bazaar features a white elephant booth as well as delicious food, fun games and photo booths. Not to miss is the 1:30 p.m. afternoon show at the Poveda Gym-Auditorium, featuring your favorite Poveda teachers, employees, students and special guests.

To cap off the school’s 50th anniversary, the full-day celebration will be highlighted by a variety show at 8 p.m. in the evening at the Poveda Gym-Auditorium. Entitled “Cheers for the Years: Re-Living it!,” be entertained by 50 years of our beloved school in songs, dances, a fashion show and never-before-seen AVPs featuring different generations of Povedans.

Catch the special participation of Edu Manzano with performances by our own Poveda alumnae Giselle Sanchez, Karylle Tatlonghari, and Ciara Sotto as well as the Alumnae GS Choir, HS Glee Club, G-Force and many more.

If you ever wondered what the first Poveda uniform looked like, the fashion show is a must-see as it showcases how the school uniform has evolved over the decades.

Fashion designers and proud Povedans themselves Amina Aranaz-Alunan, Michele Sison, Madhuri Hemandas, Stacy Rodriguez and Patty Morato-Roa reinvent the uniform with their fashionable takes together with established guest designers Len Nepomuceno-Guiao and Dong Omaga Diaz of the Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines (FDCP), and Eric de los Santos of the Young Designers Guild of the Philippines (YDG).

Modeling in the show are Poveda graduates former president of the Professional Models Association of the Philippines (PMAP) Rissa Mananquil, society favorites Audrey Tan-Zubiri, Anna Palabyab-Rufino, Erin Campos, Regine Panlilio-Samson, Tessa Nieto-Villalon, showbiz heir Alissa Martinez, PMAP members Mia Ayesa and Jackie Milner, and runway staple Gwyneth Albarracin-Wilwayco. Poveda alumnae and makeup artists Anjie Gogna and Chey Mayuga will also lend their talent and styling the show is Poveda’s very own celebrity stylist Alyanna Martinez together with Povedans Danika Navarro and Mara Bautista from the School of Fashion and the Arts (SoFA).

The whole-day activity is for the benefit of St. Pedro Poveda Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SPPMPC), which was started by a group of parents who were active in the Poveda Parents Association (PPA) of school year 1985-1986. The parents started this for the primary purpose of being able to grant financial loans to the Poveda employees. Through the years, the cooperative has evolved to serve those who have served Poveda students all throughout the years. Other proceeds will also go to current school projects such as the renovation of the Chapel and funding for the scholars.
