Ogie, Regine, Jaya to perform in family-friendly worship concert for a cause

There is a new kind of celebrity band in town – one that gets two thumbs-up for being family-friendly, and for being God-fearing too. It’s certainly a refreshing change from other popular bands out there whose performances – to the disappointment of many parents like me – aren’t exactly for every member of the family. Everyone, meet 1 Walker.

Who is 1 Walker?

Around five years ago, Ogie and Regine Alcasid were newlyweds who wanted to get to know God better. They started doing so through weekly small group prayer meetings led by Bernard Marquez.

Some of Ogie and Regine’s friends — including Liza Martinez, Jaya, Sushi Reyes and Archie Castillo — joined them on their journey to deepen their faith. During their weekly gatherings, they would read the Word of God and have discussions that led them closer to Jesus.

When Regine saw that their group loves music as much as they love God, she put forth the idea of forming a band dedicated to playing praise and worship music. Everyone agreed and more singers and musicians eventually joined them, namely Marnie Jereza, Manolo Tanquilut, Eugene Cailao, Zebedee Zuniga, Criss Beunviaje, Jem Florendo, Soc Mina, Michael Alba, JunJun Regalado and Nikko Rivera.

Thus, 1 Walker was formed.

The band actually got the name “1 Walker” from the address of the place where their journey began. The Bible verse “For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV) also has an important part in the band’s existence.

What’s the Reborn Worship concert?

1 Walker will be performing in their first worship concert entitled “Reborn” on April 3, 2016. It’s set to be a “concert for a cause” in collaboration with the “Power Mornings” group.

But who exactly are the people behind “Power Mornings”?

Two years ago, a number of successful executives came together and formed a group composed of corporate leaders and entrepreneurs. Their purpose: to take a break from the busyness of business while enjoying breakfast together, and to encourage one another through “life talks”.

Under the Light of Jesus community of lay preacher and bestselling author, Bo Sanchez, the group dubbed their midweek gathering “Power Mornings.” Eventually, they realized they were called to be more than just a “breakfast club.” Thus, they decided to lend a helping hand to communities in need. 

One such community is the group of abandoned elderly of the Anawim Lay Missions Foundation, Inc., one of the mercy ministries of Bo Sanchez. Power Mornings collaborated with 1 Walker to hold the Reborn Worship Concert for the benefit of said community.

With our family members and friends, let’s gather together for an evening of praise on April 3, 2016, 7:00 PM, at the Mall of Asia Arena. In addition to our favorite OPM stars from 1 Walker, Bo Sanchez will be there to give a special talk. Alden Richards and Angeline Quinto will also serenade concert attendees with special numbers.
