It’s clear, football wins

REAL SPORTS SCENE - Anthony Suntay - The Philippine Star

In sports, there is always something special about sibling rivalry, and that is exactly what the Clear organizers focused on for the Clear Dream Match, which had brothers James and Phil Younghusband at the forefront of the game.

The brothers have been the face of Philippine football for quite sometime now, so who better to spearhead the two squads facing off, with the very best of the local footballers in tow.

But this year, Clear wanted to “up the ante” in the words of brand manager Drew Copuyoc, by bringing in two legends of the sport in 2006 Football Player of the Year Fabio Cannavaro, and English legend Dennis Wise.

Cannavaro opted to play with James because he wanted the challenge of “shutting down” the offensive juggernaut that Phil and company possessed, while Wise wanted to join Team Phil because “I’m a winner and I look forward to winning once again this year.”

Aside from the game itself, the two special guests had the opportunity to teach and play with the kids at the Tuloy sa Don Bosco Foundation at Alabang, and had a special training session with selected kids at the Emperador Field.

The game was one for the ages, as the two teams battled not just each other, but also the harsh weather conditions, with Team James winning convincingly 4-1.

The players gave it their all despite the wet pitch due to the torrential rains, which also came pouring down during the match.

It was an event to remember with the fans, and Philippine football coming out the true winners.
