Some cold facts about coughs

-

MANILA, Philippines - Extreme changes in temperature can make a person more susceptible to ailments such as cough. Even worse is when cough comes with thick and sticky phlegm that is not only hard to expel but also becomes a breeding ground for bacteria in the lung passages or airways, which can cause infections such as tracheitis, bronchitis, and bronchiolitis.

When left untreated, bacteria can multiply further in the respiratory system and penetrate lung cells. This can lead to pneumonia, which is one of the top causes of death among children worldwide, according to the World Health Organization, and the 4th cause of death in the Philippines, said reports from the National Statistics Office.

When it comes to addressing cough with phlegm, Solmux has been a trusted brand for over 30 years now, having treated over a billion coughs of Filipinos, based on data by IMS Health. It is also a proven remedy for cough with phlegm with its bacteria expel action, as shown in a study that was recognized and awarded by the National Academy of Science and Technology in 2007.

In the study, Solmux’s bacteria expel action was shown to be able to decrease the invasion of harmful infection-causing bacteria such as e. coli, k. pneumoniae and p. aeruginosa in lung passages. Thus, apart from being able to melt and expel phlegm, Solmux is also able to prevent these bacteria from sticking to lung cells, helping prevent them from causing infection and allowing them to be expelled with phlegm.

Solmux is manufactured by United Laboratories (Unilab), the country’s leading pharmaceutical and healthcare company.
