Kesong puti and other ‘Best of the Philippines’ flavors from Magnolia

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -Magnolia Ice Cream, the well-loved and pioneering Filipino ice cream brand, has just launched the newest additions to its popular “Best of the Philippines” (BOTP) line: Kesong puti from Nueva Ecija, butterscotch from Iloilo, strawberry shortcake from Benguet province, and coffee mangosteen from Davao.

Sweet dreams are made of this: Strawberry Shortcake from Benguet

Launched last year in support of the Department of Tourism’s “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” campaign, the BOTP line promotes various provinces in the Philippines and their native food products.

To date, the line also includes macapuno langka from Laguna, coffee crumble from Batangas, ube keso from Baguio, mangoes and cream from Guimaras, pinipig pandan from Pampanga, durian pastillas from Davao, and caramel cashew fudge from Palawan.

Group product manager Jen Chang says that the BOTP line is partly inspired by another concept previously made famous by Magnolia: “Flavor of the Month,” first introduced in 1954.

The concept enjoyed broad popularity as ice cream lovers eagerly anticipated the monthly offerings, with flavors such as Choco Pretzel, Banana Split, and Sweet Corn, becoming instant classics.

Another memorable Magnolia offering is the Sorbetes line, launched in 1983, which made use of Philippine fruits, nuts, and other delicacies. Some of the more unforgettable Sorbetes flavors are: Fruit salad, halo-halo fiesta, ube macapuno, and queso rico.

“Magnolia has always been a pioneer when it comes to ice cream. Part of the reason why the brand has been successful for the past couple of decades is its passion to innovate and give consumers something new and exciting. We hope to continue this tradition with our ‘Best of the Philippines’ line,” says Magnolia Inc. general manager Reginald Baylosis.

“With BOTP, we are going back to our roots of providing exciting products using the best Filipino ingredients. We are also proud to be doing our small part in helping boost awareness for our different provinces,” adds Chang. “We believe that Magnolia Best of the Philippines is an unrivalled platform to push the sights and flavors our country has to offer.”
