Michaels Kors' jet-set holiday gift guide

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - To make shopping for your favorite people easier, Kors decided to classify his giftables into different locations around the world that embody certain personality types.

“This season, we were inspired by some of our favorite neighborhoods near and far — from the gilded glamour of Beverly Hills to the effortless sophistication of Paris’s Saint Germain,” Kors says. “You’ll find something to please even the most hard-to-impress at every price point under the sun: starting with our new, incredibly adorable mini-Hamilton key chains (around P1,500) going all the way up to an insanely luxe fox-fur vest.”

We’re sure your friends and family will fit perfectly into one of these locales, or a combination of them.

BEVERLY HILLS

Beverly Hills is for your glam, glitzy, gold-loving friends who aren’t afraid to sparkle. The gold sneakers are actually an Oprah pick: Winfrey was recently in-store with Kors, saw them and said, “I love these. These are perfect for walking around Chicago.” So she ordered a pair and started wearing them around town.

SAINT GERMAIN

Made for your polished and put-together friend, Saint Germain boasts a Parisian sensibility with little off-the-cuff details that French women always get right: a chain trim, a golden buckle, or quilted leather.

EAST VILLAGE

For your favorite rock-and-roll friend, this category is where street cool meets high shine, with rock-star-worthy items that are heavy on adornment and attitude.

SOUTH BEACH

For those who live by the ocean — or those who wish they did — South Beach plays with fun, super-bright colors and Miami-sized jewels. This is also the first holiday season that Kors is offering a collector’s boxed set of his wildly popular watches in gold, rose gold and silver tones.

SLOANE SQUARE

Sloane Square has the cozy feel of a log cabin or lodge during holiday time, referring back to luggage and Kors’ favorite color, camel. It’s weekend glamour at its finest with the perfect cable-knit sweater, lots of rich leather and some fur to warm you up in cold climes.

SNEAKER ATTACK

This is also the first season that Kors is highlighting — surprise, surprise — the sneaker. “People think that I think you should be in a heel, and that’s not the way it is,” he says. “You should be chic and comfortable in your own clothes, and something that really represents you. For a lot of women it’s the sneaker.”

The high-top sneaker is tricked out different ways in the holiday gift collection, in a few weeks MKK will launch a sneaker video campaign over social media channels, and the company promises to keep issuing designer sneaks every season hereafter.

In Hong Kong the brand currently has only a small collection store in The Peninsula hotel, but that may soon change. The company is eyeing rapid expansion to around 80 stores in Greater China.

Kors has also expanded his boutique on Madison Avenue in New York City, which is now the biggest store in the world offering the largest selection of MMK ready-to-wear. And customers have responded to the wider variety.

Here in the Philippines the first delivery of holiday 2012 should start in mid-November, and will last till January.

Kors says that when he stops being curious, that’s when he’ll leave the business, but as of right now he’s still paying close attention. I’m hoping that one day he’ll be inspired by the people and places of the Philippines.

In the Philippines, Michael Kors is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc., and is located at Greenbelt 5, Rustan’s Makati, Power Plant Mall, Shangri-La Plaza Mall, and Newport Mall Resorts World.
