Michael Johns performs at Ayala Malls

-

The premier lifestyle and shopping destination Ayala Malls continuously gives families rewarding experiences — not just retail and food establishments, but activities and events the whole family can enjoy. As a leader in world-class mall entertainment, this number one shopping and lifestyle destination does it again by bringing international sensation and American Idol top finalist Michael Johns to perform live in Manila at the Ayala Malls.

Best known for standing among the top 12 finalists on last season’s hit TV show American Idol, musical marvel Michael Johns started out as a keen sportsman who played tennis and the Australian Rules Football. Upon moving to the US from Australia in 1988, he began singing in local bars in Atlanta, Georgia. As a fan of the reality music show American Idol, Johns decided to audition at age 28, the last eligible age to join. Effort and hard work paid off as he got a unanimous vote from all three judges with his rendition of Otis Redding’s I’ve Been Loving You Too Long by Otis Redding, and earned a trip to Hollywood. His high-powered version of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody in the Hollywood eliminations assured him a place in the Top 12.

Dubbed by infamous judge Simon Cowell as “a white soul singer,” Johns was seen as among the three best competitors among the 12 finalists. His elimination took fans and critics by surprise after giving a rave performance of Dream On by Aerosmith during one week’s theme of “Inspirational Songs.” But his future as a musical artist had only begun, garnering support from numerous celebrities such as Demi Moore, Dolly Parton, Bruno Tuniolo and others shortly after his elimination.

Michael Johns became a household name with guest appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Today Show, The Sauce, The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, Access Hollywood, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Saturday Night Live. Legendary Dolly Parton even extended a musical collaboration invite to him for her upcoming single, affirming this singer’s bright future in the music business.

Johns has come a long way since AI with performing gigs such as jamming with David Foster at his one-night tribute concert and being invited to the Long Beach Grand Prix for the 2008 IndyCar Series season, to singing at the Children’s Hospital of New York Presbyterian and visiting his native Australia for a promotional Sidney visit courtesy of Fox TV. He also recently finished touring with his co-AI finalists across 50 US cities in the “American Idols Live! Tour 2008.”

A gifted singer and songwriter, Johns composed the song Don’t Look Down, the soundtrack theme song for the ESPN Shawn White documentary slated to be released in January 2009. His debut single will also be launched then, followed by his first album launch in March 2009.

Be blown away by musical sensation Michael Johns as he performs live courtesy of the Ayala Malls on Nov. 19, 6 p.m. at Glorietta; Nov. 21, 7 p.m. at Greenbelt; Nov. 20, 6:30 p.m. at Alabang Town Center; and Nov. 18, 7 p.m. at TriNoma.
