MANILA, Philippines — Makati Shangri-La reopened its doors last August 8 after temporarily closing for over two years, with the hotel now focusing on sustainability as a new drive in welcoming customers.

The hotel took into account environmental and community concerns in continuing operations in an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable manner.

The hotel's Lobby Lounge will see the biggest eco-conscious changes with newly-planted trees planted and plans to implement cashless transactions.

The hotel has also installed two chargers for electronic vehicle in four parking slots for customers who use such cars, and it will be collaborating with the University of Makati to provide comprehensive training and internships and potential full-time employment for students aspiring for careers in the hospitality industry.

In the future are full implementation plans to have a garden-to-table approach for the hotel's food and beverage offerings with a planned garden at the patio to cultivate herbs and vegetables, foregoing single-use toiletries, and transitioning from plastic to wood for key cards, just to name a few.

Plant-based offerings are already available at the Lobby Lounge, as will the menu of Sage Grill when it opens in the fourth quarter of 2023 alongside Circles Event Cafe.
