'Parang Gal Gadot': RR Enriquez, netizens react to Jane de Leon's 'Darna'

MANILA, Philippines — The verdict is out: Netizens approve Jane de Leon's Darna. On the first week of its airing, ABS-CBN's "Mars Ravelo's Darna" has already revealed lead star Jane de Leon's transformation into the iconic heroine at last Friday's episode. 

Many viewers were all in agreement that the actress played the role well. Prior to her casting, many were doubtful that she could pull off the iconic character like her predecessors did. 

Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera donned the famous red costume in GMA's "Darna" shows aired in 2005 and 2009, respectively, to flying colors. 

Angel was supposed to fly again as Darna, initially on the big screen and eventually on TV, when she switched networks but had to beg off due to health concerns.

Liza Soberano was tapped to take on the role, but the actress also eventually begged off due to health reasons, too. 

Now directed by Chito Roño, the nightly show is off to a good start. Apart from lead star changes, this recent adaptation of "Darna" also saw changes in directors, from Erik Matti to Jerrold Tarog. 

All is in the past now, that even its once-critic, actress RR Enriquez has complimented Jane's Darna. 

"Infairness sexy po sya, pinanood ko din yung video pero mga clips pa lang. Sexy po ng dating nya but I still didn’t see the sex appeal," RR begun her post on Instagram and Facebook. 

She quickly added that what she will say next will be a compliment to Jane. Unlike Angel and Marian's Darnas, Jane de Leon's version is not the type that people can fantasize on. According to her, Jane's Darna is "pang high class packaging."  

"Parang gets ko na why she was chosen as Darna. Parang si Wonderwoman! Gal Gadot peg lang. I saw Gal Gadot (wonder woman in her) Hindi din sya pa super sexy diba?" RR wrote. 

In the end, she congratulated Jane. 

"Maganda po ang packaging nya so gets ko na po si Abs cbn. So ayun po good congrats Jane you nailed it," she ended.

Other netizens also took to social media, including Twitter, where "Darna" trended last Friday. 

A netizen said that "Darna" is the best replacement for the recently concluded "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano."

The Jane De Leon who received a lot of hate comments and labelled as undeserving, is now the Jane De Leon, the new generation Darna.

The first five episodes showed how deserving Jane De Leon of the role, not open for debate.
