Hwang In-youp gets nostalgic about ‘growing up, studying’ in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines — South Korean actor Hwang In-youp enjoyed his time back in the Philippines with his “To You” fan meeting held at the New Frontier Theater last week.

As he began his event, the “True Beauty” star expressed how happy he was to be reunited with his Filipino fans after more than a year.

“I’m really happy to be here in the Philippines again,” the K-drama actor said in Korean.

During the fan meeting, In-youp also talked about playing a darker character in his upcoming series, “Human X Gumiho,” along with Ji Chang-wook and Jun Ji-hyun.

“I really wanted to show you the new side of me. So, I really worked out super hard,” he said.

As he studied before in Davao, In-youp expressed his intent to star in a Filipino series in a school setting, teasing fans of possibly wearing a school uniform from the Philippines.

“My original school was from here, and if there is an opportunity to do a drama where I can wear a Filipino-style school uniform and go to the same high school as the girl in my class, I think that would be good,” he said.

During the other segments of the fan meeting, three lucky fans were selected to experience an exclusive one-on-one date with the actor and played pretend in different scenarios.

They acted out scenarios like a special moment on a beach, like in Boracay, and working as a secret couple in the office.

One fan even played a scenario in his K-drama series “Dream To You,” pretending to see the city skies in Manila.

He even went up close to the fans and serenaded them with flowers, stressing how he’s always happy to see his Filipino fans up close.

Fans were also put to the test regarding In-Youp’s preferences, such as choosing to eat ramyeon for the rest of his life.

The actor also told Filipino fans that he preferred the winter season, imagining it feels like to eat halo-halo with the snow.

The remaining fans of the game were able to get a selfie with the actor as a reward.

When asked which of the two songs he would do a dance challenge to, he treated them with both Stop Stop It by K-pop boy band GOT7 and Ice Cream by Tomorrow X Together member Yeonjun.

In-youp also performed his iconic “True Beauty” dance to Okey Dokey by South Korean rappers Mino and Zico.

He said that the Filipino fans were lucky, as it would be the first and last time to do the said dance for the tour.

As he concluded the fan meeting, In-youp expressed his gratitude to his Filipino fans and looked forward to returning again to the country soon.

“You know, this was the place where I grew up, where I studied, and where I developed myself as a person. So, it is very meaningful for me to be here tonight,” In-youp said.

“As I also said during a fan meeting in Korea, all of you will leave this venue later and go back to your daily lives, and I will continue being the person and actor that I am. I hope to be someone you will never be ashamed of supporting and loving,” he added.
