2017: A ‘beauty-ful’ year

As in previous years, 2017 was “beauty-ful,” with the Philippines affirming its reputation as a “powerhouse in beauty pageants” in Asia.

Last year, the Philippines hosted the following world pageants: 2016 Miss Universe (won by Iris Mittenaere of France), 2017 Miss Earth (Karen Ibasco of the Philippines), 2017 Miss Asia Pacific International (Francielly Soares Ouriques of Brazil), 2017 Miss Tourism Universe (Nishita Purandare of India), 2017 Mr. Universe Tourism (Richard Carter of Thailand), 2017 World Miss Tourism Ambassador (Aibedullina Talliya of Russia); 2017 Mister Grand International (Michaelangelo Skyllas of Australia); 2017 Mister and Miss Culture World (Yodie Indra Widhanie of Indonesia and Tran Ngoc Tram of Vietnam), 2017 Mr. and Miss Global Youth Ambassador (Jabs Barcenas and Sahara Wagner, both from the Philippines); 2017 Mrs. Tourism (Universe — Anna Lorraine Ramon, USA; International — Risa Caldoza, Philippines; Earth — Sashqia Boshoff, South Africa and World — Nilar Kyawt Ko, Myanmar); and Mrs. World Peace (Le Thi Thai Phuong of Vietnam).

Although crowned in 2017, these queens have yet to compete this year: Katarina Rodriguez, 2017 Miss Intercontinental in Egypt, Jan. 24; Darlene May Reyes, 2017 Miss Tourism Queen International in Thailand, Feb. 3; Raven Renz Lansangan, 2017 Mister International in Myanmar, April 30; and Sophia Senoron, 2017 Miss Multinational (date and venue still to be announced).
