MANILA, Philippines — Bounty Fresh Group Holdings Inc. plans to expand its Chooks-to-Go network across the country, adding roughly 300 new outlets more this year to meet the growing demand for ready-to-eat roasted chicken.

Bounty Fresh CEO Kenneth Cheng said yesterday that the new locations of their rotisserie chain are nearly evenly spread throughout Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

“So, by the end of the year, we’ll probably hit around 2,000 stores,” Cheng told reporters.

He said that projections point to an increase of about 500,000 tons of poultry meat every five years in the country.

Cheng added that if the trend continues, the Philippines could more than double its current poultry consumption over the next 25 years, reaching around 4.5 billion tons.

“And so, where we are right now, in 2030, we’re expecting to have at least 66 million consumers,” said the company executive.

He said they see expanding retail outlets as key to meeting the country’s growing appetite for chicken, noting that Filipinos will continue to consume poultry meat regardless of whether it is produced locally.

“If local production falls short, imports will fill the gap,” he said, highlighting the opportunity and challenge this presents for the domestic poultry industry.

Cheng also highlighted that sustaining growth will require transforming the sector, including boosting production, distribution and market reach to ensure local farmers can meet demand. One of the sector’s biggest challenges, according to Cheng, is the limited workforce, particularly among younger generations who are pursuing other fields.

“Where are they studying right now? Nursing, marine, and IT,” he said.

He added that the industry must find ways to attract new talent and equip them with the skills needed for poultry production, processing and distribution if it is to keep up with rising consumption.

Cheng also called for government support to help the sector keep pace with demand, citing the importance of access to the right vaccines.
