Toyota launches new Camry hybrid model

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Toyota Motor Philippines Corp.(TMP), the country’s leading automotive firm, has expanded its hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) lineup with the addition of the new Camry Hybrid model.

“As Toyota continues to empower you to enjoy efficient mobility while caring for the planet, we are also redefining the essence of the new Camry as it’s now powered by HEV technology,” TMP president Atsuhiro Okamoto said during the launch of the vehicle streamed to online audiences on Saturday night.

TMP’s HEV technology uses both a gasoline engine and a self-charging electric motor, enabling fuel efficiency and fewer emissions.

With this technology, the vehicle can seamlessly switch from gasoline engine to hybrid battery based on speed, acceleration, and driving conditions.

“Not only does it reduce fuel consumption, but also helps save the environment with lesser carbon emissions. This is our best way toward electrification with no changes in driving habits or infrastructure needed. It’s considered a technology of the future available today,” Okamoto said.

Apart from the Camry, other TMP vehicles that carry the HEV technology are the Prius, Corolla Altis Hybrid and Corolla Cross Hybrid.

Okamoto said the Camry has been well-loved by customers for its elegance, quality, durability and reliability.

“In the Philippines, it has remained a leader in the medium passenger car segment. In fact, it has been called the ‘King of Sedans’ by its users then and now,” he said.

Last year, the vehicle had a 71 percent segment share.

“We have redefined greatness with this executive sedan. This is leadership that remains to be responsible,” Okamoto said.

Aside from its premier design and the HEV technology, the new Camry Hybrid has the latest Toyota Safety Sense or a suite of advanced safety and driver assistance features, as well as upgraded  infotainment and convenience features.

Available in Platinum White Pearl Mica, Metal Stream Metallic and Attitude Black Mica colors, the new Camry Hybrid’s price starts at P2.335 million.
