Toyota Phl hits record sales in May

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s top automotive manufacturer Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMPC) hit new record monthly sales in May amid strong demand for its vehicle lineup.

After selling more than 8,000 units in March and in April, TMPC said yesterday that it has set a new monthly sales record having breached the 9,000 mark last month.

TMPC sold 9,132 units in May, up 47 percent from the same month in 2013.

The sales volume was achieved amid sustained demand for the best-selling vehicle in the country, the Vios, with recorded sales of 2,080 units last month.

The mini hatchback Wigo likewise supported the strong sales performance last month with 926 units sold.

Other vehicle models which contributed to the monthly sales record were the Fortuner, Innova, Altis and the Hilux.

 â€œHaving to reach more than 9,000 units in a single month is indeed a breakthrough performance by the company. Our continued thrust of satisfying our customers with the best products and services has indeed bore its fruit as revealed by the numbers. With such results the past months, it likewise inspires us as a team to continuously find ways in serving our customers even better,” TMPC president Michinobu Sugata said.

For the January to May period, TMPC’s total sales reached 40,062 units, 35.4 percent higher year-on-year.

Sugata said the company is optimistic its strong sales performance would be sustained in the coming months.

 â€œLooking at how things are going, we at TMPC, expect that this strong demand could continue because of the positive economic outlook and the good reaction from the market with regards to our newly launched models such as the Corolla Altis, Yaris, Innova and the Wigo. Moreover, our best-selling Toyota model, the Vios, continues to be a favorite because of its overall great value and reliable performance,” he said.

Earlier, Sugata said the firm may raise its sales goal of about 90,000 units this year, noting that the first few months of the year have been very encouraging with strong growth posted in sales.

In 2013, TMPC achieved record-high sales of 75,587 units.
