Torre leading in Indonesia chess tourney
MANILA, Philippines - Asia’s first grandmaster Eugene Torre turned back the hands of time as he scored two opening victories to share the lead in the ongoing TELIN International Chess Tournament 2011 at the Graha Citra Caraka PT Telkom in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Torre, 56, subdued No. 60 Hasan Basri inthe first round and No. 36 Damogalad Ichdar the following round to join 15 others with perfect two points in the tournament which drew 110 participants.
He next faces No.16 Fide Master (FM) Hamdani Rudin in the next round, who brought downed No. 71 Albakh Ghassan Syaqiq and No. 53 Hidayat Arifin, respectively.
Aside from Torre and Rudin, other perfect 2 pointers are No. 2 GM Zhang Zhong of Singapore, No. 4 GM Dao Thien Hai of Vietnam, No. 6 GM Dibyendu Barua of India, No. 7 IM Denny Juswanto, No. 8 Cerdas Barua, No. 10 IM Liu Dede, No. 15 FM Wahono Awam, No. 17 WGM Irine Kharisma Sukandar, No. 18 Laksan Agusta, No. 20 IM Halay Taufik, No. 25 Mahmud Syarif, No. 28 Pitra Andika, No. 29 Sulkhairi , No. 31 FM Firdaus Maksum, and No. 51 Junaid Pamungkas of Indonesia.
