San Juan rolls out boosters for seniors

Jose Rodel Clapano - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora led the launch of COVID-19 booster shots for senior citizens and persons with comorbidities at the FilOil Flying V Centre yesterday.

He said that 800 of the 1,000 vaccinees were seniors while the rest were persons with comorbidities.

“We are fast-tracking our vaccine rollout for our citizens so we can all go back to a better normal, especially as Christmas approaches,” Zamora said.

He said the city government wants residents to feel protected, “especially since we have also started opening up more establishments and people are going out more.”

Zamora said qualified residents who received their second dose at least six months ago are eligible to get the booster shot.

Those who wish to get their booster shot can register with the city’s online vaccination portal and wait for their schedule, which will be sent via text message.

Zamora earlier said that as of Nov. 21, San Juan reported 29 active COVID cases.

“This is the lowest number of cases recorded since March 2020, a 97-percent decline from the city’s recorded cases of 1,123 on Sept. 16,” Zamora said.
