The Pen thinks pink

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Peninsula Manila joins its sister hotels in Asia, North America and Europe in showing support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout October with “Peninsula in Pink”, a group-wide campaign to raise awareness and funds through pink-themed offers.

A percentage of this year’s proceeds goes directly to upgrading the facilities of East Avenue Medical Center’s Breast Care Center together with its chosen beneficiary, Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc.

“In Southeast Asia, the Philippines has the highest incidence of breast cancer,” says The Peninsula Manila general manager Sonja Vodusek. “One in every 13 Filipinos falls victim to it and as a woman, a sister, a daughter and the general manager of an institution that has worked for more than 38 years with various local organizations to help make a difference in the lives of people, I believe very strongly in the fight against this terrible disease.”

An exclusive “Peninsula in Pink” ribbon pin has been designed to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Worn by every Peninsula Manila staff member throughout the month, pins are available for sale at a dedicated donation desk in The Lobby for nett.

This year, in celebration of the opening of The Peninsula Paris last Aug. 1, the “Peninsula in Pink” initiatives feature a French twist with French-inspired, pink afternoon teas, desserts and cocktails.

The Lobby’s premium teas can be enjoyed with a pink afternoon tea of tempting sweet and savory treats à la française. Guests can enjoy the “Peninsula en Rose” Afternoon Tea set or buffet.

The Peninsula Boutique will offer pink French pastries such as Strawberry-rhubarb Crumble and Pink Opera. All restaurants will offer a pink cocktail to honor this meaningful initiative: the Chambord Pink-Tini.

Specially designed, limited-edition “Peninsula in Pink” toiletry bags with Oscar de la Renta amenities will be offered to guests as room amenities whenever they book a“Pink Staycation” package, valid until Oct. 31, 2014.

Filipina-French artist Olivia d’Aboville will display a dried flower art installation at The Lobby throughout October. “I’ve decided to work with linen as the base of the tapestry on which I will pin thousands of petals from The Peninsula’s discarded fresh flowers. I think it could look quite beautiful, poetic, feminine and colorful. The petals represent our moms, sisters, aunts, friends, neighbors who have battled breast cancer,” explains d’Aboville.

After the month-long exhibition, it will be presented for auction, with all the proceeds going to the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc.

“This October, we want to encourage our team members and hotel guests to help spread our awareness message by thinking pink,” says Vodusek. “We are delighted to partner with The Estée Lauder Companies because we believe in their anti-breast cancer campaign message of ‘Let’s beat breast cancer. We’re stronger together’.”
