Asiana now flies daily to New York

-

MANILA, Philippines – Multi-awarded Asiana Airlines (OZ) has announced that it will now fly daily to New York City from its hub in Incheon beginning this month. Asiana will add two more daily flights from its current five flights a week.

The increased flights come from a sharp increase in demand for flights to the US from South Korea following the commencement of a Visa Waiver Program between the two countries.

Asiana further said it was also preparing for summer season travelers, and hoped to increase its market share in US routes. Aside from New York, the airline has a number of US destinations in its route network including Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago and San Francisco.

Asiana will utilize a B747-400 combi with a newly upgraded cabin that has premium cocoon seats and individual AVOD systems in all classes for these two additional flights. The plane will seat 246 passengers comfortably, especially during long-haul flights.

In the Philippines, Asiana flies from three points in the country: Manila, Clark and Cebu. Aside from its recent win as 2009 Airline of the Year from ATW, Asiana was recognized at the World Airline Awards. It bagged five distinctions including Best Cabin Staff Worldwide, Best Economy Class, Best Airline North Asia, Best Cabin Staff Asia and Best Cabin Staff North Asia.

Asiana also actively supports campaigns like the Change for Good program, a project that has brought over $2.8 million to UNICEF. The campaign asked passengers to donate any unwanted foreign change prior to arrival at their destinations that may be used to provide aid to children in difficult environments.

According to UNICEF, the collected donation would go to providing vitamin A to children losing their eyesight, Infantile Paralysis Vaccine shots, Hepatitis B prevention medicine and provide for educational opportunities to at least 1.6 million people.

Beginning August 2006, Asiana Airlines began offering “Change for Good” on domestic flights as well and has raised approximately 300 million won so far. Even Asiana flight attendants have formed a club called OZ UNICEF, and faithfully attend UNICEF events and do volunteer work throughout Korea.
