Talk Of The Town: We all need healing

-

You hear a lot of stories about miracles performed by the famous healing priest Fr. Fernando Suarez. But hearing them from Fr. Suarez himself is an uplifting experience that will make you feel more spiritual and prayerful. That’s the effect that Fr. Suarez had during a dinner where he was invited by his good friend Ching Cruz. It was hosted by Senator Loren Legarda in her home in honor of a friend based in Spain. What was supposed to be a despedida dinner turned out to be a prayerful healing session.

Fr. Suarez can’t remember how many thousands, perhaps millions, of people he has cured by just praying over them. But he certainly remembers the first one he did cure, when he was only 16. He saw a crippled person lying on the sidewalk outside a church. He took pity on him, prayed over him and commanded him to walk. Walk he did, much to the surprise of Fr. Suarez himself. “That’s when I first discovered that God had given me the gift of being his instrument for healing.”

Then there was this patient whose tongue had been cut short by a surgeon to remove cancerous cysts on it. When she received holy communion from Fr. Suarez during Mass, she felt something thick wrapping around her tongue. Then it became whole again, and in an instant she was able to talk normally once more.

Doctors had given up on a man who had been comatose for weeks. After Fr. Suarez came to pray over him, he rose from his bed, removed the tubes connected to his body, and started to walk.

The humble Fr. Suarez would rather not recount such miracles, but his avid followers believe that there ought to be a book documenting his many healing feats. They are also organizing a program on Friday, Feb. 6, at the Manila Hotel ballroom to pay tribute to Fr. Suarez. There is also a Holy Week pilgrimage to holy places in Europe with Fr. Suarez as spiritual guide (call Bro. Millard Villaverde at 0927-376-7733).

Everywhere he goes, Fr. Suarez is treated like a superstar by people who want to be touched by him, or simply pose with him for a photo op. The overwhelmed Fr. Suarez just smiles and says “I have to pray about these. You have to pray for me, too, so that God will always guide me to do the right thing.”

What we know is that our people and our nation need a lot of healing. — Millet M. Mananquil
