AnYare is TADHack Philippines winner

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - AnYare emerged first among 12 groups which competed in the 1st Telecom Application Developer Hackathon (TADHack) in the Philippines hosted by Globe Telecom with support from Infoshift, Inc. and Grab Taxi.  The team won USD1,000 and an all-expense paid trip for one to Istanbul, Turkey for the two-day TADHack Summit in November.

TADHack, a global meeting place for developers, was held simultaneously in six different cities:  Manila, Philippines; Madrid, Spain; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia;  Chicago,  USA;  Pune,  India; and Colombo, Sri Lanka and was live-streamed to enable teams to compete remotely.

AnYare, a shortened version of “anong nangyari” or “what happened?”, is a brainchild of young developers Marte Soliza and Beato Bongco.  The app is designed for geographically-challenged teams as it allows leaders to get reports from their members anytime, anywhere as long as there is a cell phone signal.  It also answers the issue of lack of internet access especially in remote areas since group members are no longer dependent on email for reports and updates.

“Our app allows registered users to create teams and everyone in the list will receive a call at a pre-determined time and they can record the answer.  The designated administrator can retrieve the response by simply calling the app and downloading the information through a web interface.  This way, everyone is in sync with the whole team even if they are always moving around,” said Bongco, a 22-year old Management Information System graduate from Ateneo de Manila University.

Aside from AnYare, Globe Labs also awarded two other promising groups — Meet Plus and CoNeeds with P40,000 and 3,000 API credits each which they can use to further develop their applications.

“There should only be one winner but it’s so difficult to judge so we have three.  The three apps are very promising and we hope that they can be launched in the next couple of months.  We look forward to helping the developers commercialize them,” said Anne Michelle Santos, developer relations manager of Globe Labs.

MeetPlus provides enterprise synchronization via SMS.  It allows automatic meeting notifications to be sent to participants using text messaging as well as gives the latter a chance to respond with a simple “go” or “no go.”

CoNeeds aims to bridge the gap between subject matter experts and the people that are looking for them through online calls using the web platform.

The three apps used different Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) of Globe Labs which allow the building of powerful applications for Voice, Short Messaging Service, Charging, and Location-based Service.
