Fitness and bodybuilding are so deeply intertwined that it’s difficult to talk about one without the other. Bodybuilding personalities have always been at the forefront of fitness — from magazine covers to the social media sphere. With fitness quickly growing, even projected to become the next trillion dollar industry, of course bodybuilding is growing just as rapidly.

Just in the past year, the sport of bodybuilding has evolved so much thanks to countless athletes, businessmen and other personalities who made invaluable contributions to the sport. Every year, Generation Iron honors the Power 30: The most powerful people in bodybuilding today.

This list contains some of the most influential names in not only bodybuilding but also fitness. Among the personalities who made it to the list this year were athletes like seven time Mr. Olympia Phil Heath, four-time Olympia Men’s Physique Champion Jeremy Buendia and 2017 Ms. Bikini Olympia Angelica Teixeira. There were also legendary coaches such as Charles Glass and Hany Rambod.

Coming in at 13th on this year’s list is a man who loves the Philippines, calling it his second home — Tamer El Guindy, IFBB Pro and former two time Mr. USA. Tamer has adapted the same passion and dedication he had for bodybuilding and applied it to his business.

He is well-established in the bodybuilding community as an NPC SoCal chairman and executive director of Brazil for IFBB Pro League. Tamer is also a judge for the biggest show in the world, Olympia.

Tamer’s own show, Musclecontest has expanded internationally this year. Tamer took his promotion, one of the largest in North America, worldwide this year with Musclecontest Ireland, Musclecontest Brazil, Musclecontest Nacional and Musclecontest Vietnam taking place earlier this year. Each show was a great success with hundreds of competitors from all over the world astonishing the crowd with their near perfect bodies.

The next show, expected to be another big hit, is even closer to home. Musclecontest Philippines is taking place on Sept. 8 at Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center. Here, Tamer and his team will make history as the very first IFBB Pro Cards are awarded on Philippine soil.

The Philippines will also be graced with some of the most beautiful women in the world as Musclecontest Philippines hosts an IFBB Pro Bikini Show. Decorated bikini athletes from different countries are set to fly to the Philippines to compete in this show to win points to qualify for Ms. Bikini Olympia.

Landing in the third spot on the list is pro wrestler, actor, brand ambassador and bodybuilder Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. His company Seven Bucks Productions helped promote the 2017 Olympia, which further established his position in the bodybuilding sphere.

In second this year is Arnold Schwarzenneger, one of the greatest athletes the sport has known. He continues to extend incredible influence over the sport through social media and his Arnold Classic shows which have also gone international. Schwarzenegger is well on his way to become the most influential person in the history of bodybuilding.

Finally, at the top of the Power 30 is Jim Manion, the mastermind behind the IFBB Pro League. The most powerful man in bodybuilding, frequently referred to as “The Godfather” is the president of the IFBB Pro League.

All these men and women have created their names in the world of bodybuilding and fitness. Are you willing to take the fitness challenge?

The incredible thing about fitness is the fact that it is a great equalizer. It isn’t dependent on social status or genetics. Those who are willing to put in the work and do what it takes will ultimately succeed.

Another great thing to remember about fitness is that it is never to late. Some people start in their mid-forties or late 50s and with determination and commitment still sculpt their body masterfully almost defying their age.
